Nice going as always Lindsay, if a little off your usual best. I'm guessing it was enough to win on the day? 3:24 after a 2k is stunning....Good to hear Shirley is still at it and doing well...we used to follow each others blogs on the old UK site - still miss that.
Thanks Mike - the 2k was unopposed and I had a pretty ordinary erg with a dodgy chain so I chose to cruise a bit so I can live with the 7:10. I was keen to do a better 1k for the FMMC and whilst no direct competition Allan was on sub 3:20 pace and I followed in his slip stream a bit.
Shirley is in fine form and exceeded her own expectations a bit as she hasn't raced much in the past few years. She is still very strong. We did dinner as well. Allan is also in very good shape and I suspect will be a very competitive 65+ next year. (I last met him 12 years ago at my first ever race day on holiday in NZ)

nice work lindsay. results posted today and i see you were in the same catagory as one of the guys i was going to come up and watch. jackie Awa although you did quite a bit better :) bit slim on numbers in the higher age brackets but good numbers for the youngsters.
thanks Eric - I met Jackie and he sat next to me for his 2 races. Nice guy and I think he had a good time as a first timer. He is already feeling the fitness benefits I think. The strength of IRC is its very inclusive and non judgemental in my experience.

yeah he and i did a crossfit course a couple of years ago and he stayed on while i went back down the erg path. with small changes to his diet and the added benefit of the regular exercise he has got his diabetes under control and no longer needs meds to manage it. a real success story :D :D

Was good to meet up again Lindsay after all that time. I felt the temp in the velodrome was a bit stifling and struggled to hold a good time for the 2k and pleased to finish it. Final times for me were 6m58.3/3m18.7/1m29.7. look out for the masters 7th Feb. No 2k tho, normally 1k/500/300/100, will check it out, I could be wrong.
Might see you there.
Cheers

yeah looks like the masters in Dunedin are those events 100,300,500,1000 plus the 2000. looks like they dont have the 10k which they tend to have at the Wanganui masters.
unless i have a massive form change i wont be at the Dunedin ones and it looks like that day is when i will be on holidays with family anyway

Guys, not much rowing from me lately, my rower is broken, slipping clutch, need to get that fixed, but more importantly, body is broken, shoulders, back and what not are crooked all over. Can,t get it going

So decided to step back, won,t be doing the ctc anymore, have done them from 2006 on, but my last entry is done.
The way it currently goes is really pissing me off, nomatter what I do, the body can,t handle it. So need to step away.

I still am the flyers Captain, so this should be taken over.

Not happy about this, but feel I need to do this.

Cheers Henry

That's very sad to hear. I knew you have big problems with your back, what a pity it's that bad!
Hopefully it gets better. Can you do the skierg at least?
Thanks for all your advise and insight, I hope you'll still be a part of the forum!

Thx Martin, skierg is also out, shoulders can,t handle. Its really all over.
Can,t really get a grip on it. Apart from the old injurees I fear its my genes from my mothers side, she also, as long as I can remember has all sort of pains and ackes. Really need to settle stuff, training should give you fitness in a way, but like this its the opposite.

Really sorry for you Henry, it's possibly been a very hard decision to make and have finally made through frustration. Have you got ideas on fitness regime from here, bike erg/watt bike? You're too young and fit to go to seed.

Thx David and Allan.

At the moment I simply want to feel a bit better. If, how and what I will do later on I don,t know atm. It mostly frustration right now. That needs to stop. So I simply need to let go first. If you keep doing things, you keep goals, and I my case thats not working now.

I'm not sure why I felt a reason to read this thread as I have always seen it as for your rowing team so it wasn't meant for me, but I'm glad I did and I'm really sorry to read this about your injuries.

I sincerely hope you manage to get back on track and can restart your training, but your fitness is paramount and clearly this decision wasn't taken lightly.

Reading this and about Pete Reed's horrendous spinal stroke has been a stark reminder how important it is to enjoy the moment as there really is no telling how long the ride will last. Take care and please make sure to stay contributing on the forum, your advice is invaluable to far too many for you to stop.
