Been a tough week this week, not done much training. Our Headquarters are moving to the city and for years and years I've been out in a leafy suburb. Been a busy month making sure everything is ready. our department was culled - down from 24 to 5 staff, 2 of those part time! crazy times but really looking forward to it. Oh and hopefully back on the bike and rower and ski! well done to all those who contributed to the challenge, what a geat performance.

Egad. There was a raucous raccoon fight/disagreement/contretemps last night...lots of hissing and screeching as the snow moved into the area. It's a dilemma on whether to leave the bird feeders out there, knowing that things other than birds are munching away.

Sounds like you are managing some big changes well, Warnie! Ski, bike, or row...they all are assets in your change management arsenal!

Thanks Kona! What a ride it has been... I have enjoyed the journey. The very hot summer/half the year over here helps for staying indoors and the rower gave me something to look forward to. Lots of movies and music.

Happy rowing,

Ed

Hooyah! We have some coooooold weather here in the Rocky Mountains. After three days of seemingly constant snowfall, we're to get a break from it today. There is nothing like two large dogs with cabin fever though, and every so often you just have to let the dogs out to run, run, run. Within minutes they are checking their puppy paws for snow pack, etc. They do have boots... the process of putting those on (and usually losing one or more until spring) is just not a viable one at the moment. So. There are a lot of products out there to put on your dog's paws to help protect them from the cold and abrasion...and one that seems appropriate for snowy cold days is called Musher's Secret. It's a blend of waxes to provide a barrier between the paws and the elements. Not meant to be an ad here - just some info for those who might also be running their dogs in cold climates.

I remember it being discontinued because it didn't work. But I looked it up in Wikipedia, and saw that my memory was slightly more harsh than reality. It's not that it didn't work at all - it could have a positive effect for those who were iron deficient. I thought the only reason it sold was because it contained some alcohol - please sir, some more medicine... But the Wikipedia article said that the Federal Trade Commission found that their "conduct amounted to gross negligence and bordered on recklessness." And that iron supplements, in general, were contraindicated in many cases, and that would include mine (polycythemia vera). One fun fact in that Wikipedia article was that Geritol was also one of the sponsors of the original Star Trek - I don't remember that. Well, at least it wasn't an Ex-Lax commercial that had Captain Kirk boldly going somewhere.

Whooooooosh!! That's the sound of you and your erg flying through yet ANOTHER month!!

Image 32 Lunies on the Honor Board!

Congratulations to David T, Tim, Ted, Maria L-G, Jeff D, Dan O' and Heather on finishing the Crew Challenge! Well done, everybody!

ImageImageImage

Hooboy! And if this last month flew by...well, hang on because the next two are going light speed on us! Halloween might have just concluded, but the biggest Challenge of them all looms on the horizon. Yes, the Holiday Challenge is on its way! Reindeer season will be upon us before you're ready. What's even more significant is that this year we have 27 days to get the Challenge completed. Last year was a biggie year...we had 33 days. So. Get your holiday prep done between now and Nov 27 and you will be able to comfortably DO IT ALL. Hahaha. Like that's going to happen. If you're going for the 200K milestone, the holiday pin and reindeer bling...it's 7500 m a day if you erg every day. More realistically, you will erg fewer days. Usually, I'd say choose 25 ..but when there's only 27 to start with...well, 22 or 23 days is more likely for erg availability. That bumps your daily total on days that you erg to between 8700 and 9100 give or take a few meters. Think of all the calories you will offset. But do think ahead. Work up to that amount of meters between now and Nov 28. There is time.
