erg scenery / interval training videos
erg scenery / interval training videos
hey guys,
as winter/indoor season is coming, I prepared a few background scenery videos for my erg training sessions for myself. Cyclists have many of those kind, rowers only a few - that can't stand forever, I said and took my camera!
Check out my channel and share your POV videos too!!! I'd like to row your lake!!!

Re: erg scenery / interval training videos
I was amazed that in a fov containing just a bit of the stern, boat checking at juncture of recovery/catch is so obvious in the apparent velocity of water overside! The sound of the collars in the locks on feather and catch is always hypnotic but a bit muffled in your vids. Better than any cartoon river animation. Much needed by ergers who look to Zwift for boredom-piercing eye candy.
Stephen Walker, the Brit sculling popularizer and sculling lesson shill, has some very interesting footage of the lower Thames under the hull of a single. His narration adds interest. I particularly like his narrated attempt to cross a submerged weir at high tide. I have erged several times to a DVD of The Boat Race. Trying to match stroke rates with the big boats can be very illuminating!!

What a great idea!
That deck paint scheme looks like a Wintech Explorer?
Very scenic
I must rig up a screen in front of my erg - better than staring at my garage wall!

Re: erg scenery / interval training videos
Rowed for an hour last night on Lake Attersee. I have a big screen in front of my erg which worked nicely. Interesting for me since I've never actually been on the water.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thank you!
right ...its flat upper hull section is perfect for fitting a camera - so far I haven't found a good reliable mount for any of our other boats
do it - I'm using exactly such a setup - big screen infront of the dynC2 - There are a few other scenery videos out there too

I plan to!
I clamped my go-pro to the bow ball with the 'Jaws Flex Clamp' - gave quite a nice shot down the boat... although was a bit wobbly.
I have some footage of me rowing a single from back in July - I should be able to time the erg to my boat strokes as the wide angle from the bow covers the complete span blade to blade - but yours will be better when want to row at a different pace..as think I will just fall in sync with my oars otherwise!

Re: erg scenery / interval training videos
That's what I was thinking. Whenever you can see the rower in the video, it's very intrieguing, it feels odd if you don't match the stroke rate. But people with various backgrounds do row, not everyone can or should go 24 spm or higher. Downside for scenery videos is that obviously one can hear the stroke rate, which could be overcome by turning either down the volume or the erg's noise is louder to begin with.Dino wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2019, 5:17 pm

Same goes for any guided workout video - some give spm numbers - I chose to go with the wobbly intensity figure, as intensity is different for every individual

Re: erg scenery / interval training videos
Yay! For some reason, rowing at the Gym doesn't seem to bother me as much. I'm usually chasing numbers anyway. My rower at home is a stupidly simple magnetic rower that doesn't have a true flywheel and pretty much only counts strokes. I use my Garmin watch/chest strap for a HRM. And it's a lot harder to slog it out for an hour without some sort of visual distraction.
I've been looking around for a couple weeks and for some reason youtube refused to show me this, and I've searched all over for it. The 'relaxing nature scenes' videos don't really cut it. They're for zoning out, not distraction, and leave your mind to wander or focus on 'how much longer/my butt hurts/etc...'.
Thanks - I'll be sure check this out from my rower tonight. (Who knows maybe I'll upload a video of my desk zooming in and out for an hour. Share the pain, you know...)
