The 2K is definitely a different animal - at least for me. It's a different kind of mental challenge. When I do 500M, 1K, 2K I know I will suffer and it will hurt but it's easier for me to fight thru it as I know it won't last too long (of course I am stronger in shorter rows than longer ones) - for the long rows you might not hurt as much but you hurt longer and it's a different kind of mental game to keep going at the desired pace. Anyway, the 2K is still heavily aerobic but it's good to get comfortable going fast - the intervals should help you. I am always a proponent of weights, I am not sure they make a huge difference on the ERG but being strong does feel like an advantage to me.winniewinser wrote: ↑October 7th, 2019, 10:00 amCheers KeithKeithT wrote: ↑October 7th, 2019, 9:07 amFirst - great improvement and great row!winniewinser wrote: ↑October 6th, 2019, 12:12 pm
....maybe I can squeeze a little more and get 38:00...with my build the longer distances are more likely to produce results I think.
Thanks again
I love this attitude to now say you want sub 38:00 - great goal to push for next.
I'd set sub 39' for 10km and sub 19' for 5km as my targets for the year.....but can now happily re-adjust those to new milestonesThey did look like low hanging fruit compared to the 2km.
2km on the other hand is looking a little more challenging....based on recent interval sessions I just can't see myself holding less than 1:45 for 7mins.....so need to focus on training for an attempt on this soon. Need more power in the legs and body which I might only get from some different training like weights.

Great work Ted! Regardless of time comparisons, pain is pain! I am struggling mentally with the 2k at the moment so I might take some inspiration from you and try again.Ted12 wrote: ↑October 6th, 2019, 6:36 am2K 7:56.3
First time have managed sub 8 minutes, might not seem that impressive to the big boys on here but am absolutely over the moon. Very new to indoor rowing having only started 6 months ago but following the BPP really loving the sweat n pain.
Looking to complete a HM before Xmas.
The HM is a good target and definitely found that it helped me with the shorter stuff too.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
The 2k demons never go away!
I have dabbled again with the Erg on and off for the last couple of years after a very intense 12 years from 1999-2011!
PB was 6:38.7 2k, 3:11.6 1k set around 2002
Always raced/trained as LWT back in those days
Now 63 going on 64 and setting targets as training progresses.
I vary my training now with Erg, BikeErg, otw and a bit of jogging/running.
Most recent 2000 was 7:37 about a month ago and intend giving the 2k bother bash next week sometime.
Realistic target will be 7:32 but hopeful of ducking under 7:30
Will pace it so I go 1:53ish until last 500 and gradually(if possible) ramp it up to go sub 7:30.

Thanks...I know it's all newbie gains and finding a pace I can maintain and have enough for a sprint at the end, but it doesn't mean I can't be happy about it.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑October 11th, 2019, 3:32 amWell done, 21 secs is a big improvement. Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Gains are gains and you should always be happy with them, especially when they are newbie gains as it can be demoralising when they tail off.
Judging the pace will get better with practice but it's never an exact science. We all still under or over cook it but that is all part of the process.

Nice improvement and looks like you paced it well. As far as sitting taller that is good and what you should do but I know for me I naturally sit with more of a rounded back so I don't sit as tall as I should but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference in my stroke. I think it's good you are working on that but don't stress if not in perfect posture all the time.canglem wrote: ↑October 10th, 2019, 6:42 pmTook 21 seconds off my 10k PB today.
