Stunning effort Andrew. To take off nearly 29 secs, and to average a sub 7 pace for 10k is mind blowing. You need to test your 2k again very soon.Andrew Shuck wrote: ↑August 17th, 2019, 6:42 am10k P.B. Ave/ 1:44.8 Time 34:57.3

@ Max, H-over was nothing more than a fuzzy head. Cheers.
@ Paul, As well as all distances being physically hard, i find keeping mental focus hard too. I just have to hang in there..The pain seems to stay constant. It's just a matter of coming to terms with it. (quote: Henry Embrace the pain.)
@ Stu, as you've said many times...Tickle the edges of a H.D.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Given the crazy-good PBs being posted here (Andrew! for example) this is definitely not a brag but I did manage to take almost 6 seconds off my 5k today and end up with 18:19.4.
Things that were good: I found it tough but didn't give up; overall rate was 27, though it did vary and I ended up at 29 for the last 500; clear negative split; 1:46.6 last 500; but most of all I was pleased with the disciplined pacing. My plan was to hit 1:51.0 or below until 3,500 and then turn it up from there but I was able to do a bit better than that.
I really wasn't feeling great and my diet has been terrible and sleep pattern awful so this gives me hope that under perfect conditions (which will never exist!) I could go a little faster. But the psychological boost of doing a 5k and the split being 1:49.x is nice so I'll just settle for that for now.
Martin: you'll easily beat this soon but thanks for the motivation.

Henry, Martin - thanks. Funny how sometimes we don't feel great but manage to put in a good performance.
Also weird how now sitting here on the couch I'm like "I could probably go five seconds faster" but at the time of actually doing it I'm thinking "this might kill me".
The psychology of it is weird but also strangely enjoyable and a bit addictive.

I'm the type of erger who wants to fine-tune all relevant aspects (sleep, food, intensity/duration of previous training...) before trying a TT, but sometimes I don't plan them, feel not 100% and still get a PB. On average I think it helps to plan these things, but it's evident that there are other aspects, you can't plan everything.

I don't agree Alasdair, this is something to brag about. Given the circumstances, getting below 1:50 pace and taking off almost six seconds are all big achievements.jimmyshand wrote: ↑August 17th, 2019, 1:20 pmGiven the crazy-good PBs being posted here (Andrew! for example) this is definitely not a brag but I did manage to take almost 6 seconds off my 5k today and end up with 18:19.4.
Seeing other lines of progression shouldn't be used as direct comparison as there are far too many variables, and don't forget, this is now only the start of your progression so this will be broken again soon enough
