Never heard of this issue mentioned in the Facebook group.
I've visited the FB page several times and never see any messages there. Apparently joining the group is required,
but I personally don't like FB and don't use it at all. Why not just post on here, or on Slowtwitch where everyone can participate?

Yes, you need to join the group to read the messages. How else do you expect to see posts? It’s an increasingly active group with far more going on than on here or SlowTwitch.

I do occasionally post on here, have done for years, but Facebook has far larger participation for rowing, skiing, BikeErg etc related things than on here, so you’re missing out by only being on here.

As long as you don't mind handing over your digital life to Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg...

Why hide it then?

There have been millions of threads and posts on Bikeforums.net, but not even one post about Bikeerg.
Slowtwitch has had millions of postings, but only this one thread about Bikeerg.

That's what I did. I joined for rowing. I was using my dog's name until I joined a rowing club and people were calling my Owen. I dropped off FB in 2013, but I joined for the rowing groups. Now that I have a SkiErg, I joined that group as well. I'm also part of an IRC as well.

Internet relay chat?

I haven't used once of those for a really long time.

In my years of riding, I have always used clipless pedals (aside from some toeclips for a year around 1992), when I first became 'a cyclist'.

Last night, I decided to try out riding my MTB on flat pedals. I live around very technical riding and many many people here use flats, but I just could never understand how they could do it.

To get into the trail network, one has to power up a steep, short incline, then it levels off while you roll into the wilderness. Within 5sec I was off the bike, as I started pulling up on the pedals as I would with clipless. What I found bizarre was that I could manage downhill stuff more easily than uphills - I have just become so dependent on being attached to the bike!

Once the novelty wore off, it was actually pretty fun and I got better at it, but it never came naturally. To top that off, I ejected myself on a downhill (couldn't lower the dropper fast enough) and slid down a rock face on my shin, so now an nursing a very raw patch of skin today .

My riding buddy is a rapidly improving newbie (who uses flats) and was chuckling at all my miscues, but it was a good time. He has surpassed my fitness and last night, also my technical skills.

I guess this might be a self-imposed challenge? I have always thought flats were 'goofy', but thought it best to try out myself to prove it and I would definitely say I was wrong. I still think I am a clipless guy, but flats present a new, fun challenge to experienced riders.

40 year cyclist here who originally used toe clips, then went clipless when Look came out when riding on the road about 30 years ago. I have used both clipless and flats on my BikeErg and have decided that I don't need clipless. For spinning (100%) what I do on the erg being attached to the pedals is not necessary.

I don't like being clipped in on the BikeErg. I feel there's no room for my knee joint to "Float" a bit. I just think long term this might be better for the health of my knees.

And like the above, i've been riding clipped in for 25 years on real bikes. Real bikes have side to side movement, to give the knee joint some "Float".

My 2 cents.

No reason your bike erg can't have the same float if you use the same type of pedals.

flats are way safer once you start riding DH/FR type trails and esp so if coming from a XC background like I was!!
