Stu/Anth - cheers. I have 6x10kg and 2x20kg plates. The latter I got from ebay and are labelled "Fitness Direct" and cost £53 delivered for both.

I've noticed at the gym I goto they have much more bulky and colour coded plates in the deadlift area (and have seen people using these on youtube)....anyone know why? Is it to spread surface area to help save the floor as they are all the same diameter irrespective of plate weight and are all quite wide? Or...?

Targets: 14s (100m), 355m+ 1min, 1:27(500m), 3:11(1K)

Erg on!

Bumper plates, and yes bigger surface area means they can be dropped from overhead with less risk of damaging the floor, platform, bar, the plates themselves or the lifter.

Not a bad price that. I just scored x2 20kg plates off eBay for £35 delivered. Only vinyl though, but do the same job :) Just gotta be careful not to drop em down hard, as they have a tendency to split and get sand all over the bloody place.

This is going to sound a bit crazy, but when I picked a few of those (bumper) plates up I didn't trust the weight on them in relation to their size - they all felt too light :o :?: :!: . As such I'm using metal ones (although they are wrapped in rubber and the floor has a platform) with the hex bar at the gym. For home use I have some wooden platforms covered with rubber car mats, for deads. This saves my *** DELETE - SPAM *** floor and gets the midpoint of the bar (1 inch diameter bar and plates with less than the standard 450mm bumper plate diameter) up to what it would be in the gym so I can compare like-with-like. Beforehand at home I was pulling from 5cm or so further down if that makes sense....

Good price but obvs problem with vinyl is they are bulky. 4 of my 6 10kg weights are metal bought locally second-hand....always good to be on the lookout.

Yeah!! i've been on the lookout for cast iron ones... matter of fact i just recently got outbid on 2 20kg body sculpture plates that were local pickup, GUTTED! So pricey. Typically the good deals i see happen to be other end of the country and no deliver option
