PM5 Bluetooth appears to be always on

Post by mulan » June 30th, 2019, 9:13 pm

Hi, new user here. Since the PM5 quick start guide is extremely brief and there seems to be no detailed documentation available, what does the Bluetooth symbol followed by a single round bracket in the top right corner of the main menu right next to the time mean?

Does it mean that Bluetooth is on? It's been there since I first connected the PM5 to the ErgData application for iOS and it remains there even when I choose the option to turn wireless off in the utilities menu. Is this the expected behaviour?

Furthermore, the fact that there is no left bracket, only right, is really frustrating for my pedantic personality. :?

Cheers!

Have you upgraded you PM5 to the latest firmware?

If you have and the left parenthesis is still missing send an email to rowing@concept2.com to complain.

Pedantically, {} are braces, [] are brackets and () are parentheses.

Yes, I have.

Ah, we've got a comedian here. Cheeky, but incorrect.

bracket |ˈbrakɪt|
noun
1 each of a pair of marks ( ) [ ] { } 〈 〉 used to enclose words or figures so as to separate them from the context: symbols are given in brackets.

Regardless, I'm more interested in how I should interpret the symbols with no reference and the possibility of Bluetooth being always on and draining the batteries rather than the missing left bracket, thank you.

Wrong again, it's the Oxford English Dictionary… Could you please stop being a muppet and either address my issue or go bother someone else?

I don't work for Concept2 - I'm a volunteer on this forum.

Upgrade your PM5 firmware.
Then send an email to rowing@concept2.com if it isn't fixed.

I just bought my model D with pm5 and it still does this. My firmware version is 166 which is the listed latest firmware on the web page. I also have a hardware fault that happens when using the erg app that fries the memory on the pm5 and looses your data. Needless to say I'm not happy with my $1000 rower at the moment. And yes I have emailed service. I guess i just expected everything to work right out of the box for this price tag.

Do a factory default reset on the PM5 buy holding down the change units and change display buttons and pinning the reset button on the back at the same time.

If that doesn't fix it, you probably have situation normal until the next firmware version release.

Just checked my PM5 but its the older hardware version and running V29 firmware.

I get the Bluetooth symbol followed by the ) when I turn the wireless on. The wireless on mine needs to be turned on every time I turn on the monitor. The symbols appear briefly again on turn on but disappears after a few seconds.

Cannot say I have paid much attention to the Bluetooth, it connects to my Samsung phone no problem when using Ergdata.
