The TT was totally unplanned, this week should be easy so no training yesterday, legs felt fresh.
A few meters more are possible I think, started a bit to slow.
Don't know why there are 2 different results, the PM5 showed 689W average (376m), but 375m is the result.
Anyway, I'm very happy with this result, +6m

Thank you Henry, I tried to follow your advice to start faster and fade out, a great advice as always! Next time I'll start even faster as I still finished with a 1:21 pace. Re downrounding, happens often, how and why I don,t know.
If you don,t loose strenght and get fitter, your 1 min and 500 also will get better. I have seen a y strong guy improve his 500 by only starting doing 5k as training, instead of sprinting a bit. Erg sprinting is very much about raw power. Ofcourse really peaking needs some specific training, but raw power will get us a long way.
A guy like Paul Jeffrey, Wr holder sprinting on both the rower als skierg mostly trained his strengh and power, and pulled 1.13 on the 500 age 54....

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks Keith.
Started with 10 strong strokes (thanks, JimS, for that idea) then went to 500m at 1.56, 1.55 or so for the next 1k, slowly speeding up and then went nuts with 500m to go. I could barely focus by then (other than trying to will the distance left to go down), so not sure of the pace.
Thanks Dino,
7.30 has to be the next 2k target now, but will focus on getting the 5k down below 20min (another target at the beginning of the year).
The only thing older than the ergs in the gym is my phone – a seriously ancient blackberry clone. Think I need to look into ergdata, but might go for an HRM first. Understanding how consistent I am across intervals will be quite handy.
Thanks Stu,Dangerscouse wrote: ↑June 4th, 2019, 1:54 pmWell done Max! You will definitely benefit from increasing the stroke rate up to 30+ but that will come with time and more fitness.
Counting down the last 30 strokes is a great distraction
I haven’t done much rate work, as I haven’t really understood how to pace it. And the skill aspect comes in a bit too – I tend to resemble a landed fish when I go much faster.
Thanks Jim,
I got the last 30 idea from you. And the strong start. Not sure what is going on physiologically, but there seem to be some free metres at the start.
Thanks Martin,MartinSH4321 wrote: ↑June 5th, 2019, 1:13 amWell done Max, good you struggled through the last 500m!
Was delighted once I’d peeled myself off the floor.
Thanks Anth,
500m seemed lots.
Thanks Mitchel,mitchel674 wrote: ↑June 5th, 2019, 9:59 amVery nice!! Impressive progress and you crushed your target.
What gains I’ve made thus far have been largely due to smarter pacing, but this is definitely something I couldn’t have done a month ago. Very pleasing.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I'd say you could dip under 20mins now for 5k based on your 2k time. Try a 5k rate 20 keeping as close to 2:00 pace as you can and see how close you get to 20 mins... I think you may surprise yourself. If you don't make it but close then repeat but allow yourself to rate up as required. I reckon you'll post on the PB thread again very shortlymax_ratcliffe wrote: ↑June 6th, 2019, 5:25 am....will focus on getting the 5k down below 20min (another target at the beginning of the year).
Looking back I think I was around 7.40 for 2k when first went under 20mins for 5k last December.
