Hi everyone,
I just bought a model C with a PM3 monitor that doesn’t work. The seller said they replaced the pickup sensor last year which didn’t work, then they tried the monitor on a different rower and it was still stuck on zero, so it has been in storage ever since.
Last night I plugged the model C into what I know is a working PM3, changed the setting to model C in the hidden menu but the same problem occurs! So despite having a new pickup sensor and a working PM3 plugged in the monitor still reads zero.
I’m going to take out the flywheel today, check the magnets for rust and attach it tightly to see if the rowing will register. Failing this, does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?
Thanks
PM3 stuck on zero- even with new sensor and working monitor

I've given this a read and followed all the steps- using a working monitor and a working sensor still results in it being stuck on zero, so I'm not sure where the issue is coming from.

Loose or cracked tach pickup socket on the monitor.
What version of PM3 is it ? Look in the product ID screen for a date code and serial number.
The older PM3's required an actual physical link to be moved inside the monitor as well to shift between Model D and Model C.
How old is the monitor firmware ? the older firmware doesn't have the little picture on screen showing you need to move the link.
It can also be corrosion, the older PM3's suffered corrosion and it takes out the Tach signal, this was very common.
You need to supply more information.

Thanks for the info, I’ll try an explain what I’ve found a little clearer so apologies if it’s longwinded:Carl Watts wrote: ↑May 27th, 2019, 6:40 pmLoose or cracked tach pickup socket on the monitor.

I have a model C and a model D, both of which came with a PM3 monitor.
The faulty PM3 in question is on the model C. It doesn’t work on either machine and I think the tach pickup socket is loose. This looks like the newer model of the PM3.
However the working PM3 on my model D is not working when connected to the model C; I’ve gone into the settings and changed the type to model C but it’s asking me to change something manually so I believe it’s the older model. I’ve inspected the board and read the manual and can’t locate what it is I need to shift. Could you provide guidance as to where this link/switch is located?
For reference, the product ID on the older PM3 says the hardware info on the product ID page is 100003168 1972003, but has no mention of firmware. On the newer PM3, the product info page is different and it states the firmware is 314, and the hardware is 330.
Re: PM3 stuck on zero- even with new sensor and working monitor
Update: I found the physical link that I needed to switch on the older, working PM3 changed it to model C. Worked just fine! So now I know the issue is definitely with the loose socket on the newer PM3 and will send this off to get repaired which should do the trick.
Thanks for the help!

Yes thats a really old PM3 from the date code it's made in week 197 of 2003.
Its so old it may not even have the firmware version at the bottom of the screen. It takes TWO updates, one to V101 and the second to V108 to bring it up to date.
If the tach socket is not loose or broken on the new version of the PM3 it may be stuffed as there is a rare fault thats not worth fixing where it could be the micro thats not processing the Teach signal. Its so rare I have not really spent the time trying to fix this issue.
Your newer PM3 firmware is out of date as well, its easier to update, just look on the Concept 2 website and download the update utility.
