Sometimes I hate this forum...

Firstly congrats to all those new PBs!
Is this an end of season thing?
Some big milestones being set this week Jimmy / Lindsay - well done!
This evenings plans fell by the wayside as felt obliged to join in!

30m seemed the most get-able following recent rate 20 PB.
1k warm up @2.10 plus bit of stretching then set to it. Started off at same 2:00 /r20 pace then gradually ramped up, with big push at the end.
Finished up adding 141m to PB :)

thanks Henry/jimmy/martin/dino - totally unexpected I guess and "respectable" is a good descriptor. I think it means the last 3 months of training has been right on target - fitness is feeling pretty good. My next 2k TT is May11 so it will be interesting to see.

I decided to put all excuses to one side and just go for the 8k in 30 minutes today.

I warmed up for 1k, then went for it, setting the PM for 3 minute splits. Was cautious and disciplined and wasn't sure I was going to make the 8k until about the last couple of minutes, at which point I upped the speed.

Ended up with 8,016 so I'll take that.

Almost 100m more than previous PB. This was tough but not super-nasty-tough. But I'm glad to have got the 8k in 30 in the bag before the end of the season. Hit max HR in the final three minutes.

Now I'm going to eat some waffles.

Set off to do the hour before the end of season just to post one
Never been anywhere on 60' - best from 2016 was 15360m - its never been my thing
today was 15368 @1:57.1 - not much but I will take it - very surprised (and pleased of course)
Any PB is big - way to squeeze in before end of season - I sort have been waiting to test until next season as I have been a little off but this makes me want to give one of my lower scores a go (maybe 30 minutes)

I'm not accepting that this is "not much". In my book that's a great result and for your age is really amazing. Well done Lindsay.

Get in Alastair. Breaking 8k is a big deal, you'll regularly keep breaking it soon enough you know you can do it. Well done bud.

Thanks Keith and Stu - I ate a whole Easter egg today, which is also a personal best.

The annoying thing about the 30 minute row, in my humble opinion, is that no matter how fast you go it still lasts 30 minutes!

Hello everybody,

my name ist Seb and I´m from Augsburg (Germany). Nobody in my gym is actually rowing except me, so unfortunately I have no chance to talk to anyone there. And that´s why I´m looked at the forum.

I´m rowing since 25.12.2018; tha last 4 month I rowed 608.000 m ( mud season madness 268.000 m).

My progress so far is quite good, although I know that this will soon stagnate. I now have good reference times after 4 months and want to see how I can improve myself for the next 12 months.

My next (short-term) goals:

5.000 m 17:45
10.000 m 36:30
30 min 8200
60 min 15900

In February 2020, in Starnberg (80 km from Augsburg) is a 30-minute competition. I would like to participate then.

So far from me...

Completely agree! The 4, 30, 60 minute test are hard mentally as you cant do the "the faster I go the faster it will be over with" trick - you are rowing hard the whole time and then you start to panic at the end thinking you aren't going to hit the goal meters.

I think it's harder as metres drop so much faster than seconds do, so mentally it feels more manageable seeing a quickly diminishing total.

I always know my approximate metre target and do mental arithmetic to keep it more focused on metres and try and then focus on blocks of minutes and tick them off as percentages completed. The distraction is really useful.

The TT felt really good, my plan was >7850m, and at about 20min I realized 7900m were possible if I were a bit faster on the first half. So I decided not to sprit at the end and save some energy. I hope to reach 8k in a few months, this TT makes me confident :-)

I decided to go for a lot of goals in the next ranking season as suggested to me when I asked for them. I want to do a sub 36:00 10K, 8500m for 30 minutes and then the biggest two - a sub 17:00 5K and maybe a sub 6:20 2K - I know the last two would be major improvements but I also know I thought the goals I did hit were maybe out of reach, so I will dream big.

The goals for 10k and 30 min... It would be great if I reach this the next ranking season.
The sub 17:00 for 5k are close to the WR in my gender/weight/age categorie; so i would say not possible the next year

What do you think Keith, how long/often do you have to train for the sub 36:00? And how do you train for this?

I try today to row 10 k in 38:00, in 2 or 3 days 37:30 and then next week with 100 % to set a good season time.

@ all: what are your goals the last season week?
