Ha! I just started the Dark Horse Coaching Academy on Monday! And I opted to stall it for a couple of days until this 2k was over, because I was trying to rest. I wasn't sure how hard that Damper workout would be.KeithT wrote: ↑April 12th, 2019, 10:27 am
You are way too much like me!
I struggle to calm down and also have that "out of body experience" but have gotten way better. Even at the WRIC I did 5 hard pulls and then 5 to settle but realized my "settle" I was still in the 1:20s and had to take a breathe and force myself to calm down, which I did but its hard.
Then I am also impacted by music - especially classic rock and hard rock and that can be good in the middle of a longer row but during a 2K test I don't hear anything as completely zone into the monitor and what I am doing.
Finally, I did the Dark Horse Coaching Academy a little over a year ago. I am glad I did it and I did learned a lot. I met Shane farmer at the WRIC and he was a super nice guy. I know some rowing folks don't always agree with all Shane/Dark Horse coach and say he is a converted CF athlete (which he did come do extremely well in CF) but he was a rower and then really do a good job of teaching the basics of the stroke and how to identify issues and how to correct them
I am hopeful that between the info here and in the DH program, with some clean eating and hard work, I can eventually get to 6:20. It's going to be tough, being a member of The Lollipop Guild, but I think if I work at it, I can do it.
As for Shane Farmer, never met him, but I've not come across anything controversial in his videos, so far. But, I consider myself pretty much a novice, and probably wouldn't know what would be considered controversial. I've seen enough positive results from those that have gone through the program to trust in it's efficacy.
