Image Ooooh, now I get it.

The numbers on the face don’t necessarily correspond to the numbers we’re used to, but instead correspond to the angle at which that number would be found.

You could sort of make the hours show up. Each hour is 1/6π (2π/12), so the hour would show up as the numerator of the fraction for each hour, if you don't reduce it: 1/6π, 2/6π, 3/6π, 4/6π... You can see this on the clock in the image for the hours of 5, 7 and 11.

I don't think my teacher would have liked seeing 3/6π for a 90 degree angle, though :D

Thank you, Dan. You find the best images!
Agree with Norma! danwho inspired a whole series of thoughts on time and how we measure it! If we'd had similar kinds of props in class, the assignments would have perhaps been more memorable...although as David B says - our teachers might not always have liked how we came up with solutions! Good fun!

I have a question; since I wasn't able to use my machine for so long my handles have gotten sort of sticky and some of the rubber is rubbing off onto my hands when I row. Do you think that white tape (or do they make it in black?) that hockey players use on their sticks would be a good fix for that?

Getting back into rowing is awesome :D , but progress is oh so slow  . I got my rowing machine back in 2010 and although I haven't been able to use it steadily for the last 4 years I am happy to say that we are getting reacquainted, and I look forward to many hours of rowing as I challenge myself as often as possible.I was so happy to see my life-time meters pass the 3,000,000m mark yesterday. It was a good boost when struggling to get back into rowing form. Having the Luna-tics as a support group helps me stay focused, so thank you for that.

Okay, I'm off to change the parts in my leaking toilet tank, so enough dawdling for me. (When people ask my husband why I do all of the maintenance around the house he says, "She likes to do it, and I like to let her". But he's going to help me on this job, so I better get going.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 3.16.19

Post by Kona2 » March 17th, 2019, 12:40 pm

Image Happy St. Pat's Day, Lunies! Today everyone is a little bit Irish - and some of our teammates are a LOT of Irish.

Image Day 3 of 32... and we're in 8th!

Like other team challenges, the World Erg Challenge is filled with a first two weeks of building your team - and numbers fluctuate wildly. In the last two weeks of the Challenge, the teams are "set" and that's when things get truly serious. So hang on to yer erg seat and keep the big wheel turning, Lunies! We have a lot of meters to get done!

Image Day 17 of 31...

Meanwhile, on the flip side of the page, the Mudness Madness Challenge continues...and oh what a slippery slope it is to hang on, hang on! 80 percent of our Concept2 universe Challenge starters have falled off the Challenge wheel. In contrast, Lunie teammates are only down 44 percent at the 5K level, and 48 percent at the 10K level.

Image Concept2 sells a replacement handle for $15 (might need the retrofit kit for your rower) - which seems like a really good deal. Or you could just give Concept2 a call ! They are very helpful. https://shop.concept2.com/parts/99-indo ... grips.html

Image Day 4 of 32...and we're in Lucky 7th !

Image Day 18 of 25

Image Holding the line...

Image It's all in the name....Another episode of bunny trails of the mind...

Every other year, the National Alpaca Show is held at the iconic National Western Stockshow grounds in March - and the three day event was this past weekend. Up until last year, I'd not really paid much attention to alpacas, other than trying to discern who was a llama and who was an alpaca. There are some easy differences: alpacas have shorter ears and kind of smooshed in faces, they are about 150 lbs vs up to 400 lbs for a llama, their hair (fur?) is much finer. On day one of Pedal the Plains last year, the lunch rest stop was held at Kamali Alpaca Ranch...and this was where my biking friends and I met a very young alpaca with the break-into-song name of "Sweet Caroline Ba-Ba-Ba." Yes, Sweet Caroline was truly a favorite of the biking crowd.
Image
One of the two gals I was biking with LOVED Sweet Caroline!

Fast forward to Sunday, the last day of the Alpaca Show...and here comes a text from other gal I was riding with on PTP:
Image
Sweet Caroline wins first place in her division (probably one year old halter class)!

Image
They are truly cute little fiber growers. And the Alpaca Ranch was voted a favorite stop of the Pedal the Plains 2018.

Meanwhile, we have several teammates who are approaching multi-millionaire status...in fact, I expect danwho and Norma to cross that milestone today! Whoop, whoop and let's celebrate!

Hi Folks

About to fall off the ladder, or whatever, the gym I use is only available to me 6 days per week, not Saturdays. Unfortunately this season there are 5 Saturdays in March so I started with only 1 spare day and have burnt 2 in physio.
Only managed this challenge when I had a C2 at home but now no space.

Good luck to team survivors at either level.

Keith
Even though I have my own erg, I this issue every year. :) (As an orthodox Jew I can't use the erg on Saturdays, and this year another day is a fast day. I may row on a fast day, but it is hard when you aren't allowed to eat or drink anything at all.)

Hello Team,
I missed you all. I've been off the rower since August of 2017, courtesy of two (2) right rotator cuff surgeries. The first was in February of 2018, but it didn't hold. So, November 1, 2018 I did it again. It looks like coming back will be a slow grind. I managed to stay aerobically active, but my overall strength is way down. Have any members had this surgery, and made the comeback? If so, what might I be looking at expectation wise? Thanks in advance.

Hi Will - good to hear from you. I recommend the bike erg while you’re reacquainting yourself with the rower! Several here have had the surgery or injuries so hopefully they can give you an idea about what the return is like.

Image Day 6 of 32..we're 8th

Less than 100K separates teams in ranking spots of 6 thru 8. Keep going, Lunies! Every little bit helps, and bigger bits help more. The thing about overlapping Challenges is that there might be a tendency once we finish the Mudness Challenge, to take a break. The World Erg Challenge team will STILL NEED YOU in those days after. So take a day off, but come back to the erg soonest. Besides, you will be getting yourself ready for the global marathon challenge in May!
