First day of the Holiday Challenge ! I've completed every HC so far, always by doing my regular training to prepare for the winter 2K erg races. Just curious as to how others rack up the 200000 meters.

The first year I had to add meters to my regular training in order to make it. Since then the regular routine has been enough.<br><br>I suspect that the Challenge has kept me at it throughout the holidays. Otherwise, getting busy might become an excuse for slacking off. <br><br>Rick, 9394m today to kick it off.

This year I should just be doing my usual erging. Last year I ended up waaay short for meters cause I was spending all my time on the water enjoying the Miami sun. This year I've been doing that and erging <br>Might also try another 100k after school is finished for the semester as part of it if I'm feeling crazy enough, we'll see.<br><br>Heather Johnson<br>F20 158lbs 5'7"<br>2k 7:32.2 20min 5057 30min 7481

I'm just going to do the normal training that my coach tells me, then if I need to, add in meters on Dec. 22-24th

I plan to continue my regular training, trying to row 10K or more daily. In the first day row 0 meters since decide to go for a 60 miles bike ride in the morning. After 3 hard hours on the road there was time only to thanks God for all the blessings.

Hi <br><br>This is the first year of attempting a holiday challange <br><br>I'm doing 10k a day with one day off every week. Yesterday, I did 15k for the first time ever. (Yeah what a slacker!) Felt suprisingly good today and much stronger than usual <br><br>I (badly) broke my arm a year or so ago and it's taken me a while to get back into rowing. <br><br>The challange has been a real motivator !!!<br><br>Thanks<br>S.

My normal rowing routine is 10K-12K (with a day off every week), which would be a simple 200K+ for the Challenge, except I'll be in the far snowy north for a dog sledding trip 10 days out of the middle of the month. It would be a hoot to pull an erg out of the sled every evening and row for an hour in the snowfield, but the rest of the group wouldn't agree to ferry all of my other gear so, no go there. So, I'll probably do some 15K days and maybe a half marathon in order to be able to breathe easy about getting in all the meters. It can't be the pin, and I've got plenty of t-shirts. What's the compulsion? Hard to explain. Just that I've done every challenge so far, and TRADITION rules? Maybe.

This will be my third Holiday Challenge. I usually erg 5 times a week with the two weekend rows being somewhat longer. The three pre-work rows are of 7500 each. I find that planning out the sessions is worthwhile. I then keep track of my actual progress versus goal. The other key (which it now too late for, of course) is that I get a total of 50,000 done over the Thanksgiving weekend. This year, that total was nearly 54,000 meters. Since the calendar made this year's HC nearly as long as possible, I only have to do my normal training to complete.<br><br>Good luck,<br><br>Neil<br>M/38/LW<br>PR of 14,345 for 60 min. on Friday.

My plan is to do the online marathon on Dec 12 using rowpro. That, plus the training build up to do it, should put me over 200k for the period. I am going to row fairly slow (2:10 pace) so if anyone else is interested, please feel free to sign up.

I'm still having some trouble with my elbows, so will take it day by day. <br><br>My motivation is to take off the extra 4 pounds I have put on since I stopped doing much erging to let my arms recover. <br><br>I am aiming for 10,000 2 times a week, and 1 hm or more once a week. 2 or 3 weeks of that will get me back to lw again

I also have done the HC every year. I usually just do it with my regular erging, at should be able to do it again this year. This year especially I would like to finish by 17-Dec, inclusive, as that will be the end of 10 years of owning my erg.

As a new rower (got mine about a month ago) I have been rowing 5000 to 6000 meters a day. I figure I can easily make up the distance by adding more per day. My plan: divide the total of meters by days (30) and row that min. per day. Quite simple.<br><br>To avoid boredom I have my erg set up in front of the TV. I watch two episodes of "Gunsmoke" while I'm rowing. Makes it quite easy as I watch Matt, "Miss Kitty" Chester & Festus in their day-to-day lives. Of course, there's also the blacksmith (Burt Reynolds). Burt was on the show for two years!!!!

I try to get in at least 15,000 meters a day. I'm now rowing 90 minutes and averaging over 19,000 meters a day. I'd do more except I'm working 60 hours a week, and got a round trip of 90 minutes each day to work. I watch TV or listen to music. I have a Tivo and two Replays DVR, and record what I want to watch. I blow right past the commercials. I also have a seven changer DVD player hooked up to the TV too. Rather beat myself rowing than beat myself drinking. Coming up on four years this December 30 of quitting drinking and smoking.

i've gotta get my 200k in by the 17th i think, since i'm going away and i'm not sure i can find one where i'll be. i need to get about another 130K in now, which shouldn't be too big a problem, since i usually do about 10K 5 times/week. i think i'll try to add two HM's, just to be sure. i'd really like to do about another 180km by 1/31- that would get me to 2 million total since i started last halloween.<br><br>good luck all and happy holidays<br><br>andrew
