Remove seat?
Would like to remove Model E seat. Is the easiest way to disconnect the rollers under the rail that hold the seat to the rail? Thank you in advance.

Hey John. Can’t be done because you can’t get even the short arm of an Allan hex key between the web of the rower beam and the heads of the two bolt/axles of the bottom rollers to hold the bolts stationary while you remove the outbd. jam or nyloc nuts. If you could do, you still wouldn’t be able to back the axles free of the rollers as, alas, egress blocked by that same pesky beam web!Myopic Squirrel wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2019, 5:25 pmWould like to remove Model E seat. C2 recommends removing rear leg to permit sliding seat and truck assembly off the slide/beam. But there is another way.
Break the erg down to two pieces at the frame lock joint.
Turn the rower beam and seat section upside down on bench or floor.
Remove the four hex or Phillips hd. screws which secure the mounting flanges of the roller mech/truck to the seat.
Set the seat aside.
Use two box or open end or adjustable wrenches (9/16” maybe) to remove one of the nyloc nuts at either end of each top roller axle. One or both nuts will break free and one or the other will spin free of the threading ahead if its mate.
Pull the axle out of the roller bore while noting the positioning of the axle spacers at either end.
Secure the roller, axle, nuts, and spacers and repeat with the second top roller and put its bits and bobs with the others for safe keeping. The seat truck flanges will separate with the bottom rollers still attached and you can proceed to replace old rollers with new or whatever else you have in mind.
Assembly is reverse of disassembly. Just be mindful where and when to add dis to dis and dat to dat.
There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

Re: Remove seat?
Hello Jack,
Thank you for your prompt response (and confirming what I learned after posting my Q and going back to look at the underside of the seat) and instructions. I'm not usually so OCD, but in spite of cleaning the rollers & rails after each use with Windex, the rollers' edges are still a little dark. More a form over function thing (no bumpy seat travel). Will try cleaning with the seat on and if too much of a PITA ...(per your sig *S*).

Re: Remove seat?
Omg just had a total nightmare. Feel like crying. Slightly misread these instructions I was trying to fix a rocking seat. Took wrong bolt off took ages to come off and when it did it wouldn’t go back on properly and appears threaded. This is the bolt that hold one of the rollers that go underneath the rail. All the bolts for the seat appear totally rusted in place which means I’ll never be able to replace the seat or seat rollers as far as I can tell. Unless I could work out how to take the end of the rail off I guess. But I can’t get to the nuts behind the black plastic cover to unscrew that

Re: Remove seat?
Thanks Cyclist.. I was able to remove my old seat eventually.. Was a nightmare though.. One bolt wouldn't come off so the back stand couldn't be completely removed.. Gonna post a new thread about the new seat.. Found the instructions not great
