That fish was THIS big!!

Image
Tent city on the ice....3 Lakes Ice Fishing Tournament....

I've noted that ice fishing is a big deal around here, and it appears that there is a three day tourney in progress. Yesterday's wind was fierce, and lots of blowing snow filled the recently plowed driveway. Had to settle for backing in 20 feet from the gate, or the day would be spent digging out a vehicle. Oh well, that's why you have gear sleds. Bounding Goldens (once again healthy) thundered down what looked like a bobsled run. Out on the ice, what looks like a far away tent city was set up. Similar cities exist on two other lakes in this tournament. Each day, the tents are collapsed, put into a gear sled, and hauled away with all the other gear by snowmobile. These competitors have to get into town for the official weigh in of their fish by 5:30 PM. Prizes are pretty substantial, too! The next day of competition starts at 6:40 AM. I can attest that it was still oh-dark-thirty when they were starting to arrive. Cloud cover and more impending snow kept temperatures in the low 20s. Across the ice they race towards their chosen spot - and they'll stay there until time to leave for fish weigh in. Just a little local "color" in what looks like a black and white day.

Our team position is in danger of being eclipsed by another team ... a scant 100K space exists between Us and Them. We do what we can, when we can!

Today's stats

Post by Kona2 » January 29th, 2019, 7:27 am

Today's stats will be delayed a bit - have to catch a plane to Tucson - a planned visit, and not the result of yesterday's 10 inches of snow....uff da.

Image 15th overall and still 7th virtual....

Ah yes. It MUST be the last week of the Challenge! I'd say we were having some slippage from 13 to 14 and now to 15, but we're not. We've been sure and steady at number 7 of the virtual teams!

Nothing like a few hundred miles to give a ten fold increase in temperature. So busy basking in the warmth that I almost forgot to finish the posting! Meanwhile, AJ has produced yet another fine caricature and has supplied one for Jim O.

Hey guys,

I've been doing half marathon rowing for the past 2 days and feeling slight back and knee hurt afterwards. Is that normal as I'm not used this distance? Or do you think something might be wrong with my technique?

Thanks.

I have never tried a back to back half marathon. After a single half marathon, I do not feel any pain, maybe a little more fatigue in certain muscle groups (thighs and quads).

You may want to either cut down or take a day off to heal up. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks. I'll take a day off in between rowing exercises from now on. Let's see how it goes on Friday.
