Some great stuff here, good work guys.

Martin, it seems we are relatively closely matched so if you fancy a training partner on the Logbook you can find me pretty easily from my name and times below. Would give me some extra motivation and might work well for you too.

Nice work on the new 2k PB.
Hi Alasdair, that's a good idea, I've sent you a training partner request. Every extra motivation is much appreciated :-)
Do you have a specific distance you're working for at the moment?
My next short term goals are 10k sub 39min and 1k < 3:10. I wondered when checking your signature that you are a few seconds behind me at 10k (as your 5k and 30min times are clearly faster than mine), but your logbook shows you already reached sub 39, congrats! :-)

Yes Martin, you're right. I am normally totally shameless and update sig straight away but 10k and 500m were wrong so they are correct now. The 10k PB I wasn't really trying super-hard according to my Logbook notes and didn't reach max HR so I think I should be able to take a good bit off that if I try.

My next big one is 8k in 30 minutes. You seem a lot stronger than me because I can't imagine I'd ever reach your LP or 500 times but for some distances we're reasonably close right now so that's good.

Yes, looks like our "performance curves" intersect almost exactly at 2k. After many years of weight training I'm well built for the short distances, but it will take time to reach your current PB >=5k. 8k in 30min is a big target, you're pretty close, good luck!
Have you done some (or a lot of) cardio training before you started rowing? With almost 2m and 100kg it looks like you're perfectly build for rowing, less for running or cycling :-). I did some running from time to time, but with 100+kg my knees and lower back started to hurt when I did a bit too much. So, like gammmmo said in another topic (but the other way round as he did cycling but no weight training): My chassis is much stronger than my engine ;-)

I was always a pretty fast sprinter (running) but mainly I was a basketball player for many years though I really don't have much of an aerobic 'engine'. I enjoy the 1k to 5k distances most. My engine is definitely stronger than my chassis but my engine isn't all that good. But none of that matters too much because my brain says I enjoy it!

Well, not exactly NBA unfortunately but I did play in small nations tournament with Scotland team and won league title and cup in Scotland and played in national league in England (Div 2) in later days. Played small forward. Took too many shots.

Nice! I played in pretty much every division in England apart from BBL and Div 1 myself up until a couple of years ago. There's definitely some current and ex ballers that would be able to put up some decent times on the erg!

Great job and a nice consistent effort with going a little quicker at the end - well executed.

Fore sure! I now know GB team rower Cameron Buchan is an ex-basketball player and actually when I played at Liverpool some of the guys were involved in the Redgrave's Liverpool 8 thing (still on youtube I think). But I knew literally nothing about rowing until I started on the erg in 2017.

Good news: new 2k PB by 14 secs today

Bad news:

Last few strokes were still coming in at 1:40/41 so I think I already have it in me, but just wasn't my day. Will try again in a few weeks...

Finally cracked the 16 second barrier in the 100m tonight...

100m / 15.9 / 1:19.5 / DF 190 / SR 57 / 697w / SPI 12.22
Image
An improvement of 27w over my previous time (16.1) but there is not much satisfaction in setting a 100m PB... Yeah I'm breathing heavy... but not I'm gasping/collapsing to the floor in victory... :|
Slight pain/strain in the right buttock but should be okay in a day or two. Warmup was a 5K @ 1:58.4

That's really bad luck, but 14 sec is a great improvement, congrats!
Next time you can be sure to go sub 7, so mentally that's a huge advantage, good luck!
