How to set up a training program...
...for someone coming back to the erg? Some great advice on here for newbies. While I haven't been on the erg in a couple of years, have been exercising regularly (45' - 60' power walking 3 - 4x a week). My goals: 1. train smarter - effectively & efficiently 2. aerobic fitness, secondarily in preparation for a learn to scull camp, date TBD, late Spring at the earliest. Now back on the "truth machine" and been easing in with some steady state. 29,650 meters in the last 8 days, gradually increasing time @ 18-20R. Most recently 25' 20R (Wed & Thursday). Felt good Friday but dragging today (uncertain if the result of a 200 mile interstate holiday traffic drive). Now have a HRM & will use for all future workouts. Looking to establish a starting point on which to build. Greatly appreciate any suggestions.

1 keep going 4-5 days a week, plenty of mileage; 2 make sure your first boat is an easy one to keep right side up.
If sculling turns out too complicated, a stable K1 or K2 kayak gives good exercise, complementing the erg and is much easier to use.
