There it is!!! A very nice early Christmas present for ya Keith!! Well doneKeithT wrote: ↑December 20th, 2018, 10:04 amSub 3 Minute 1K in the books!!!
I had the day off work yesterday and slept in a little - started warming up for workout and was feeling pretty good. Since doing a 1K test a couple weeks ago I have been feeling I had a shot at sub 3, so I gave it a go. Things went pretty close to how I planned but I had to dig super deep and do everything I could both physically and mentally to get that split down in the last 300m. I have to say I was in as much discomfort as I have ever been at the end and afterwards and still have "the cough" today - but all worth it and I am super happy. I really am confident in a sub 6:30 2K now and will try it in the coming weeks.

Decided to try the 100k for the first time just before the holidays... Success!
100,000m / 8:33:11.3 / 2:33.9 / 96W / DF 110 / SR 23 / SPI 4.17
Here is a time lapse video of the performance monitor (condensed into 10 minutes)

I'll be posting a full breakdown of this piece in another thread
Congrats to everyone this month! So much good work being done on the erg around here... I have to admit that I'd LOVE to be able to go SUB 3 for the 1K... but alas... I'd be happy with sub 3:10

Thanks to Anth and Stu for the encouragement.... honestly... in my mind, broadcasting the event live removed the option of quitting. I had to finish it... no matter what.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
In the shadow of the epic 100k and the awesome sub-3 minute efforts above, I humbly submit my slight improvement in my already poor 500m PB, which is now 1.31.2. In my defence, I think I have more to give here and I hardly ever do it but it's a start.
But the thing I am actually pleased with is seeing the PM flashing 1:28 a good bit during this and during a previous failed attempt. This means I am definitely getting better, despite fizzling out somewhat on this PB.

FM: Just below 3h and 5 mins. Got a 2mins 40 secs improvement from my old record
Did this one without straps and felt good. I also borrowed my sister's watch and could track the heart rate. It was the first time I could check it. Avg 176 bpm (no idea if it is too high or low )

Big chunk to knock off a PB. Well done Neo. HR sounds quite high but it might not be for you so I wouldn't worry about it unless you know your approximate HR zonesNeorticros wrote: ↑December 26th, 2018, 6:31 pmFM: Just below 3h and 5 mins. Got a 2mins 40 secs improvement from my old record

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Hi all
New to rowing - in the last 3 weeks.
Have done some cycling and so have a bit of an Aerobic base .
When I got the machine I did 2k in just under 9 mins but I really didn’t know how hard to go etc so I know I could have done that row faster. Have done some varied training since then and knocked time of the 2k week by week.
Today I did a 1k warm up then a 2k which I didn’t intend to PN on. Half way through I felt good so I picked it up and moved PB from 7.58 to something like 7.53. I then did 5k steady at about 2.10 pace. Then decided to do another 2k to make it 10k for the session. Again, no intention of making it a hard effort but I did a big pull in first stoke and ended up just keeping at it. Pulled PB down to 7.38. 217 strokes. Ave 28 spm. Average HR 169.
Have done a bit of reading and so I get that this is nothing to write home about yet. Some stats:
I am 34 years old
Male
87kg / 192 lbs (down from 101 kg in May this year).
I feel like the initial 7min figure is doable for me. Given above - if I rested tomorrow and went at it Sunday fresh, I think I could pull 7.30 at the moment...
Questions - if you guys would be kind enough to share your views...
-Is this current pace reasonable for someone new to rowing ?(when I say I cycle - I’ve probably done 2000m this year which for those in the know isn’t a lot). Only started cycling the last few years after a good number of years of being fairly inactive and unfit)
- what is a reasonable 12 month target for 2 k?
Thanks in advance!
