New PB for one-hour row. Was going to do a SS piece and was thinking this might be my last longer row before the WRIC. Was going quicker than planned at beginning but felt decent so kept the pace (about 1:52) thru the first 30 minutes. Then realized I had a good chance to set a PB and more importantly had a good shot at a goal of 16K. Second 30 minutes was tougher and my pacing wasn't as good - overall it reads as though I kept a consistent pace for the 12 minute chunks but in reality I was falling off pace and recovering with power 10s or 20s every so often. Anyway, was right on pace for the 16K and picked up some with 2 minutes left and then shockingly still had some in the tank to pull in the 1:30s for last minute and drop avg to 1:52.2 and 16,036M!

Congrats, but relative speaking certainly not your 1/2k level. You have room for improvements here.

Thanks! It wasn't paced very well and was the day after a hard interval session and some Olympic Lifting - so I was just happy to do the 16K. Speaking of the interval session - mentioned that in the "what training have you done" thread - did the 750 intervals you suggested.

Finally.... A new PB in the 50K... Held good pace for the first 45k then just decided to go for it in the last 5k (check that last interval!)

50,000m / 3:46:08.8 / 2:15.6 / DF 130 / SR 24 / SPI 5.83

Shaved almost 2 mins off my previous PB of 3:48:04.7

Still hoping to go under 3hrs 45 min at some point....

Great job, Lance! How do you manage the drinks and food and ... breaks?

My HM PB still has two minutes of HD in it and I'm looking for tips to cut them down.

For a HM it's all a matter of believing you don't need to stop for a drink or food. You can complete it without stopping, or if you need to wean yourself off it, try rowing one handed whilst drinking first of all. I never stop for a drink or food for anything less than 30k.

Thanks everyone! This piece was a bit of a surprise... I really didn't expect to connect so well on the erg but a few things came together to make this one possible...

- Did a good weightlifting session 4 days ago and have been resting since
- By chance, I ended up eating a LOT of carbs over the weekend (rice, potatoes & bread). Just felt like totally "pigging out". SO, I was pretty carb loaded
- Target pace for the piece was 2:24 but I ended up pulling a 2:18 out of the gate...
- I took my first 2 min handle down break at the 2 hr 30 min mark (with 17k to go). I usually take more breaks (on the hour)
- Second handle down brake was with 8K to go (50 seconds)
- Water taken in every 15 minutes
- 2 juice boxes and 2 small cookies eaten.

The last 5K was very fast. Went sub 2:00 pace most of the time. Locked down the PB pace with 3500m to go. The rest was gravy. Had huge energy for this one and had to slow myself down several times.

Full disclosure: I did this in my underwear with a fan on my back for maximum heat dissipation. It ain't pretty, but it works...

New PB for 10k! 35 seconds knocked off my previous best. After 3 consecutive days of 10k UT2, steady paddling for the holiday challenge, I felt like doing something nippy. So, what the heck, try a fast 10k. And it worked well. Concentrated all the way and no danger of an HD incident. Helped along by the funky music of the Talking Heads.

43:19.6 10,000m 2:09.9 25
8:43.6 2,000m 2:10.9 24
8:39.9 4,000m 2:09.9 24
8:40.1 6,000m 2:10.0 25
8:40.6 8,000m 2:10.1 25
8:35.5 10,000m 2:08.8 27

This effort is 160W or 2.90W/kg

If I weighed 75kg that would be 218W equivalent to 39:02 @1:57.
If I weighed 100kg that would be 290W equivalent to 35:30 @1:47
Woo Hoo!!
Congratulations. That's a big improvement.

This month's CTC and a PB by 92m. I almost didn't go to the gym this morning as my back felt a tiny bit aggravated. With a bit more confidence I like to think I'll break 8400m fairly soon, as I lost circa 15m by not maintaing a flat pace.

@Stu, strong aerobic stuff there...surely getting your own erg will only make u go quicker? No pressure. :D

New PB for me at the 1min duration with 346m (+1 :) ) but getting towards my max I reckon with current fitness. DF=138. First stroke=2:01, and then just tried to only see 1:26 and below but last 10s was definitely tying up and saw the odd 1:27 and a 1:28. Still pleased though. Did a 2.2K progressive warmup after a few minutes of paddling, and then 5K of 'filler' at 1:59.7 to pad out the session.
