New to rowing (June this year 55yrs old)

Have recently cracked some goals - thanks to the advice here (on a setting of 5)

In the past 7 days 3 significant new records: 2000m 7.35.2, 5000m 19.38.0, 10000m 39.49.2 (this morning) pleased with that.

Last week I attempted my first hour row - have never rowed more than 10km - and was fairly happy w 14651m for a first go.

It looks like setting 5 is ok for me.....

I am not too where to go from here - I seem slightly better suited to distance - rather than going under 7.30 for 2km... - but enjoying it.

If the damper lever is on 5 (for example) on one machine it could have a very different level of resistance to 5 on another as they all vary depending on how much dust is accumulated in the fan cage so the way to know the resistance is ...the ''Drag Factor'' which is a measure of the speed at which the flywheel slows down. To set it.... On the monitor press ''More Options''.....then press ...''Display Drag Factor'' a box will come up with a number in it…that’s the drag factor...row some strokes raising or lowering the lever to adjust it. Raising the lever raises the number...lowering the lever lowers it. I'd suggest starting at 120 then experiment from there to find what suits you best, here's some useful info;

5 K personal best today: 20:46.6. Yeah!

This beats my last year PB at 21:01, which just missed 21 min and was frustrating. I gave this one a try to set a benchmark for my rowing. I plan to try more volume to see if it makes a difference. I would like to beat 20 min in a 5K (someday), but that is about a 10% power improvement from where I am now.

Have a great day!

New HM PB for me today of 1:32:55.9!

This is just over 90 seconds off my previous best of 1:34:29, and felt like a fairly full effort...

Pacing plan was to stick at 2:13 (24-26spm) for the first 15,000m and then try and pick it up. Reality was at 15,000 I was struggling a bit, so I kept plugging away at 2:13 until the last 3,000 when I got some second wind...

Next 1,000 was around 2:08-2:09, then 2:04, and I desperately wanted to go under 1hr 33, so last 1000m was over 30spm, and heart rate of 176!

New 10k PB. 41:32. 1:05 faster than last weeks PB which was a bit crap as it was only second time at 10k. But it’s another step towards my

Forth try at 5km PB today. I worked on the theory that if you don't feel like spewing you're not going hard enough. That resulted in a 20:28, 45 seconds better than last week! That time will stand for a while.
Monday is 5000m PB day. Only 21:11 today, not my best but I've got a bit of man flu. It did feel easier though, was able to hold 28 s/m but didn't have the power today.

I said I wasn't going to post any PRs unless a milestone as I had posted a lot recently but....yesterday I took 23 seconds off my 10K and lowered it to 36:30. This was after taking 5 days off of training, I am mad that I could have started sprint earlier and went under 36:30 as I missed it by a few tenths and I had a last pull of 1:26. I paced it really well overall will all 2K splits within 1 second of each other. Now on to new plan that I will share in a different post as I want feedback.

New 1hr PB for me today of 14,089m.

First 40 mins was @ 24spm, and then last 20 was average of 26. Pace was very constant at 2:08 throughout.

This is a mere 73m better than my old PB, but they all count!…

20:38 for 5km today, 10 seconds slower than my PB but I don't feel as exhausted as I usually do.

I think I could match that. The pizza, chips and m+m's part.

Ohh and awesome rowing !!! Really impressive.
