It’s the jelpad from JLRacing, Minnie. I also have the sore no more pad.
... and, the jelpad floats, if you recall the on-water incident!

First I'd like to thank Kona2, DanWho, and anyone else involved in the management of this team! The daily postings of meters are hugely motivating. They are the main reason I moved my affiliation to this group (well that and a natural affinity for Luny-ness).

When I push my rows much past 5 or 6Km, my butt starts getting a little sore. I'm looking at this pad in hopes it will help.

has anyone else used this, or have a recommendation?

Also, I get pretty bad callouses on my hand. Looking at these gloves.

Again, have you used or can you recommend?

Thanks in advance,

My wife and I have pads from 2K Fit that seem to work well. The 2" and 3" pads are quite comfortable.
Those all look good to me.
For gloves, I know quite a few team members swear by the NewGrips (https://www.amazon.com/NewGrip-Gym-Glov ... B00IMOS5J4). I've used Harbinger Pro gloves, which aren't described as being especially applicable to rowing, but worked fine for me (https://www.amazon.com/Harbinger-Non-Wr ... B01HK1BMCG).
There has been quite a bit of discussion about posterior cushioning on this forum, especially for really long rows, including pads, towels, and bubble-wrap. I'm pretty sure that Thor and Ed still use (and would recommend) a folded towel. But, as I recall them talking about it, the words "folded towel" fall far short of a description - I believe there was a delicate balance of physics and voodoo in the proper towel selection and folding technique, and we might even get one of them to fess up about the best choice of fabric softener :) .
I never had the problem with heel rubbing. The suggested fixes sounded good to me. But you might also want to search the forums by typing the word "heel" into the search box in the upper right of the page. Heel lift is something that people try to correct in their technique. Since heel rubbing seems to suggest some amount of heel lift, you might want to check out what others have said about heel lift.

Hey guys.

Doing some catch up here. K2 sounds like a great ride, sorry the weather wasn’t great.
Master Ed, 52 mills … wow!
Well, I don’t do the mysterious towel fold anymore and haven’t for a while. It did help some but blisters were still coming up. A while back I ordered 2 of the thin cheap pads from C2. I just had to change one recently. I started using two at a time but that didn’t work well. I then just used one to rode that for over a year I think. Just changed it a few weeks ago. It is probably the cheapest option and I sure won’t say the best butt, it worked well enough for me. Next time I will likely buy a better one that’ll last longer.

I used to lift my heel when rowing and I hardly do now. I think I get more power from driving off the whole foot rather than the toes then laying down the heel. I’m no expert so take that for what it’s worth.
A week before the FTC, I tried rowing barefoot for 2K and had a nasty blister and got a band aid similar to what Norma suggested. Worked great for me I didn’t have to stop rowing. Try tightening the shoes? Or just keep the heels down flat and work on ankle flexibility.

I tried some tender gloving care but it just didn’t work for me. I even wrapped a towel around the handle for a while. I just row bare handed and file as required. Be sure to towel off the handle after every use to keep the rubbery feeling to help with the grip. Pulling evenly keeps the handle from slipping out of your hands. I only grip with my fingers and not with my palms. Like a claw I guess.

Hope something here helps.

Keep on Rock’n.

I have had a lot of luck with using 2 of the Concept 2 foam pads on top of each other. I started with one pad but my well sculpted buttox  indicate that was not enough for the longer rows. Two work fine and do not add too much height above the standard seat.

Best of luck

Well done to the Fall Challenge Team - now 80 strong! Four teammates have surpassed the 100K mark (Ed, Zach, Ron, Keith F) with many others getting close! Two have made it past 200K. Thanks to all for the meters!

Lots of good answers to the questions posed on gloves and seat cushions! I like the New Grip gloves, the Sore No More seat pad and the JelPad from JL Racing (they also have excellent rowing shorts or trousers as they call them). The only time I use a combo of seat pads is for marathon distances - and I sure don't do those often. Still, when we are in challenges, it really helps to have the seat pads - especially when you might be considering doing multiple erg sessions in a day.

Once I saw that I was at 55,111 last night, I debated doing the last little bit to get to 55,555. But instead I ate a huge supper and fell asleep shortly after! :D

Right there with you! I saw that I was really close to a milestone, last night, and calculated
how many meters I needed to go back and row. Then decided to follow Scarlett's sage advice:

No question. Time for Minnie to open up the curtains to a new day.
And, as Joe Cocker used to say, you can leave your hat on... but the curtains might get caught in the rollers.

Howdy Luna-tics...

Weather is warming up "down under" (yes, we're sending the cold weather back to you for your turn). I only happened to notice the "Challenge" the other day, so a good opportunity to get on the ERG. Given my "graduated from work" status I spend most of my time on the water these days, but hey, nice to give the ERG a workout in the shed...!

Plenty of adventures happening here - just spent some time counting platypus numbers on the Murrumbidgee River...! A great experience on a wonderful river, one of Australia's biggest.

Trust all are well, Baz B)

Ps: On gloves for rowing/paddling - I try to put as little grip pressure on the oar/paddle and manage issues as they arise.

Thank you for the welcome Kona2. Hoping joining this team and participating in the Fall Challenge will keep me motivated to get back into erging :D
On the seat front, I used to use the basic Concept2 pad and then a towel or bubble wrap on top, bubble wrap worked well. Now using a deluxe Concept 2 pad on top of the basic pad, and this is currently working well for 30 minute rows, I'll add an update when I start doing longer rows as I improve my fitness! Usually start rowing with "Gripsters" on my hands, but end up taking them off for the last five or ten minutes, find they are ok but can move about a bit.
Aiming to start Pete's Beginner Plan soon

Hello,

I joined the team before the start of the challenge and it has been fun reading all the posts since then! I just started recently on the C2 Erg (bike !) and it has been a lot of fun and sore legs!

I saw Kona2 mentioning in his post that I mooned the team for the challenge, but not really because the meters on the BikeErg are divided by 2 in challenges, don't know if you care about that in your posts :P

Anyway, I will keep adding some meters for the team in the challenge.

Have fun Ergin' !

And we're back to number 7 spot again before I can even get things posted this AM! What a wild Fall Team Challenge this one is going to be ! Baz, Louis, Todd, Minnie and Tony W also reached the 100 K milestone in the Challenge in the last 24 hours! Well done!

Welcome to new teammate Rosie!

You know how you can be dinking around on your computer or your phone and sometimes you find stuff and then can't figure out how to find it again? (I know..usually stuff pops up that you DON'T want to find... EVER again!) Don't judge me yet..this was finding innocent kinds of stuff! I was editing a post yesterday, and suddenly found a veritable TROVE of new smilies that was accessible on Concept2 forum....and there was not only one kind of moon...there were several...and then they were gone. I know I saw them. I even had used a full moon. And I haven't found them since. Is this something unlocked only in the edit function? I'm sure it was a real time event, and not just a technological dream...

Image Earning a bike erg moon...🚴 :bike: Well, unicode has some bike emojis...but it's not the same thing. 🚲 But I digress. We've had lots of discussion previously about bike erg meters. Halving them for the Challenges seems the right thing to do as it makes the effort more equitable. I don't always have the ability to see what type of erging has produced the meters that are posted - so I just go with the number on the stat sheet (which I can see for those who are registered as year round team members on our affiliation). Unless the team member has allowed others to view recent workouts, I can't see what type of workout produced the meters...and it would take a lot of time. Halved or not, over 21K meters is a lot!

Well, I definitely haven't rowed any marathons, full or half, but I've put in quite a bit of seat time. I swear by the JLRacing pad(s). My bony bottom eventually created dimples in my first pad so I got another and put it on top. What I like is that they don't move around or slip. I'm not sure the same is true for a towel.
