BRIC 2018

Post by NavigationHazard » August 16th, 2018, 3:39 am

Anybody heard any rumours about exactly where and when the British Indoor Rowing Championships will be held this year? The British Rowing website promises an event in December, unhelpfully with date and location TBD. Given that we're probably talking 14-17 weeks from now, some of us might like to plan out training schedules with an actual race date at the end...

Evidently they have announced 8 December as the date but haven't said anything about venue. See https://www.britishrowing.org/event/bri ... pionships/

Agree completely Jon - it is a big deal to travel from Oz and get the timing right. CrashB was the same unfortunately. I couldn't wait longer so have booked to be there that weekend (staying in Brussels prior for 2 weeks). Had a note from an erg buddy in the UK today - there are rumours that the venue may change as the Velo is too expensive.

Alex Dunne from C2 responded to me on Facebook with a note that the BRIC venue for 2018 is indeed the Velo.

Euros will be Copenhagen, January 26. Alex says announcement on the Worlds is imminent.

I think he meant 24 days from when Nav said announcement was 'imminent'

I'm new to this forum (hi everyone! :D ) and slightly panicking about BRIC 2018 now that I've got my race details. Can anyone who went last year help?

In the competitor handbook it says a warm-up period has been factored into the timings and the marshall will sort this out but, the marshalling time is only 20 minutes before the race start. Is this really the only warm up period?
Also, it says you can't bring your own food. What do I do about my pre-race peanut butter sandwich and post race celebration/commiseration brownies?

cheers!

The procedure at BRIC has always been:

Marshall about 20 minutes before your race.
Everyone who is racing at a particular time moves up to a warm-up area
There should be enough machines for everyone but last year I ended up sitting at a couple of duds (missing/flat batteries?).
You should get a short warm-up, about 10-12 minutes including set-up time
You then all go through to your race machines and set them up
Normally not much time to warm-up on your machines, then handles down and they run the start sequence, starting with pick up your handles and ending in "ROW".

All a bit annoying if, like me, you normally do a 20 minute warm-up. Best to plan for the shorter warm-up and hope your machine isn't dud.

On food.
Yes, its a real pain especially as stadium food is expensive rubbish.
Don't try and bring too much of your own stuff. Hide it well in your bag or around your person.
