LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 9.07.18
Welcome back to Jeff G! Always good to see new and returning teammates on the Lunie roster!
8 days away!
Starting to see the telltale signs of Fall...right in my own backyard with splotches of yellow leaves in some of the trees! At the time of the summer solstice, we received 15 hours of sunlight a day...and now we're down to 12 hrs and 45 minutes a day, losing daylight at 2 minutes a day as we zoom along to Fall. Tick tock..tick tock. Time to get MORE time on indoor erging! What better way than to join in the camaraderie of a Fall Team Challenge?! Sign up!

The Orange Season Approaches !!
The Lunies Team welcomes all who wish to participate in the Fall Team Challenge! To sign on with us, when next in your logbook, scroll across to the TEAMS heading. Then scroll down to Join Team Challenge - and select Luna-Tics Team from the drop down menu.
The first two weeks of any Team Challenge are all about recruitment, and there's a lot of volatility in the team rankings. Once the teams are locked in (i.e., you cannot join or drop), that's when the Challenges get brutal. Some teams will withhold meters and do a meter dump in the last week. Some teams only upload all their meters once a week or every few days. This results in "where did that come from" statements. We report our meters daily - what you see is what's there. It may not always be the best strategy, but dang....we can sure live with it. We hope you'll join in the fun and games with us!

Monday, Monday...what will today bring?! Fire up the ergs and find out!
We're in the in between time...in between Challenges! No pressure to produce meters - no pressure except what we put on ourselves! Hope you are all taking advantage of getting some outside time doing things that erging makes more possible. A beautiful weekend here with a bunch of real bicycle miles generated along some of the bike paths that connect the region from East to West.

I still include Pluto in the "My Very Educated Mother Just Showed Us Nine Planets" mnemonic, and I would fill that dog's bowl, anyday! I only skimmed the sci-news astronomy link, but this did seem to segue nicely from Pluto's dinner!
"Demanding that a planet "clear its orbit" is essentially saying that a planet must complete "X" number of orbits before it's a planet. Which is ridiculous, it is claiming that Mercury was the first planet, then Venus, then Earth as they "cleared their orbits". So Pluto would be a planet at some point in the future, but isn't now, just because it's not aged enough? Foolish on the face of it. Planets don't have magic birthday numbers, after which they are all grown up and get a seat at the grownups table."
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Just logged on for the Fall team challenge. It was kind of rough this morning at the "Y" getting back on the erg after being on the road for 12 days. It is good to be back home and into a routine again.... till I again head out at the end of the month!!
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hi all! I just joined the team and the fall challenge (my first)! I recently received my rowing certification to help introduce good rowing techniques to my gym. Personally, I need to spend more time with my butt on the rower! Thanks for giving me a motivation to JUST ROW!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 9.11.18
Saturday!! The erg wheels will be churning !
The PLAN:
The erg wheels will be turning for me starting on the 17th! It's time for the annual trek on my Trek to the eastern plains - farms and ranches there are big producers of much of Colorado's food. Also a great opportunity to see how the Future Farmers of America are integrating new technology (drones, wind generated power, oil and gas plants). The plan is that danwho will post the stats (barring any objections from Hurricane Florence) starting Friday, and I will do my best to have the connectivity to post some farmy and plains-y photos and perhaps a tale or two from the outposts of wherever the New Frontier's edge might be this year. If, for some reason, we can't get the stats for a couple of days - we'll catch up!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I have been back on my rower for 4 weeks now and can tell the difference:
1) I can do 15 full sit ups again (at the beginning, my abs gave out after about 8-10)
2) I can sit upright on the rower again (instead of being slumped over halfway through, unable to straighten my back anymore)
3) I can engage all major muscle groups again on the rower now that there's enough resistance and strength built back up in them. This means that after a good row I have lots of good muscle soreness all over again.
4) I only need 1 water break in a 30 minute row (instead of 6-7)
5) I am making good progress on Altered Carbon (I started with Supernatural, but that show just hasn't been able to keep my attention lately).
6) I lost 9lbs and my pants are starting to feel like they're a little on the large side. I need my belt now.
7) I have a long, long way to go before I'm back where I was in 2014, but have been improving my 30 minute meters with almost every row (from 6373m on 8/15 to 7031m last night)
8) I need to eat more (I've been rowing on an empty stomach and the last few days I've been suffering from what feels like acid reflux)
9) My shoulder pain is gone. I'd been having problems with my shoulder if I moved my left arm above my head. No idea what caused it, but it hurt to move my arm in certain positions. And that's now all better.
Baby steps... Looking forward to the Fall Challenge though.
