We have indeed been to the moon, and returned to Earth. Pretty sure we are close to the moon (or beyond!) again. I will provide update when I get back to Denver - my travel computer doesn’t have all the tracking files on it. Thanks for sending out a locator beacon!

Ah, but there are different kinds of infinity. And actually, that topic made the news recently - well, maybe not the front page .
There is the countably infinite and the uncountably infinite. For example, all the integers, or all rational numbers is countably infinite, but all the real numbers is a higher level of infinity - uncountably infinite. Now, a big question since knowledge of the existence of these two classes of infinity was whether there were any others. And a big area of speculation since the time of Georg Cantor was whether there was a class of infinity in between those two - there was a good candidate for a tweener infinity, that no one could find a way to prove was equivalent to uncountably infinite or something less than it. But recently, someone did find a way to prove that particular case was equivalent to uncountably infinite. As far as I recall, it doesn't say whether a tweener infinity is not possible, just that certain candidates were not. All a bit fuzzy at the moment - I would have to go back and look at some articles - and I guess off-topic - just ruminations of a fellow mathineer.

Meanwhile, back in the land of cactus, bird of paradise blooms, and roadrunners...there are the most amazing lightning storms (and steady rainfall) in the monsoon season. Still, Florida reigns supreme in the US as the state with the most lightning strikes (17 cities of the top 30 are in Florida, and not a single AZ city is in the top 30...another data driven myth buster). August, with its oppressive humidity and high temperatures, was still a time to sit out on the porch and watch the lightning light up the sky. Probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, but it was spectacular.

Speaking of lightning bolts - it's an easy transition to meteor strikes. For those who might like 80s sci fi /fantasy...there is the Gandalara Cycle series (Starts with The Steel of Raithskar)...it is similar in its transport to another world to John Carter of Mars...except you're on a cruise ship, you're terminally ill..and a meteor hits. You wake up, on a different world...in a different body...

Regardless of the cardinality of the infinity, there isn't any way to go beyond it! Considering rowing one meter at a time, we are dealing with a countable infinity. A mind stretching fact is that, although there are an infinite number of fractions (rational numbers) between each integer, there are the same number of rational numbers as integers. This is proved by showing that a one to one correspondence can be set up between the integers and the rational numbers. As a child of the 60's and 70's, I can only say, Wow, that's trippy!

Uff da. One thing I discovered kind of quickly in my return to use of the indoor rowing machine for longer distances was that while I still have some good calluses on my hands, I'm used to wearing rowing gloves. I didn't have those that first day on the rower. Egad. Got some weightlifting gloves at this gym, and have narrowly avoided total blisterville on my hands. Only two model Es at the gym - and the weightlifters use them for warm ups. Thought I'd try to knock out the rest of the Challenge today and found that to my chagrin...I couldn't get enough time on the rower! Good grief..I am so spoiled. Reminded me of our teammate who was trying to get enough time on a gym rower to do a half marathon last year, and couldn't book it for enough time since the guys and gals used it for short warm ups! Many Lunies manage this situation of signing up for equipment use every day (bg, for example!)

Hah, I hear you! AJ and I have been out of town and, getting home last night, realized that we only had four days to complete the current challenge. Good thing we have a rower AND a bike, or there would have been marital disharmony. (Only problem with working out at the same time is that we simply cannot agree on what to stream on Netflix!)
