I haven't posted much lately. Nothing new to post about. I've cut back my rows from ~5 rows per week to closer to 2-3 rows with 2 days of sit ups, pull ups, push ups, etc.

My Wednesday rows are typically some type of interval row. This morning was a 2x2k / 4'r. I've known for a while that rowing a sub 8' 2k was well within my grasp. I just had not done it yet. I figured this was as good an opportunity as any.

new PB 2K: 7:51.9 @ 1:57.9 pace. That beat my previous best by 8.5 seconds. :)

(now, i just need to work on that second 2k after the rest and get it sub 8'. I'm so very close...)

I can't tell you how much the longer rows have helped my shorter rows and that's due to advice I got on this forum.
Yup... I logged a lot of long meters last season and it helped me a ton. Well done on the 1K! That's a huge time.

After crunching the numbers, I should be able to go under 3:10 in the 1K (which I would be very pleased with If its possible).

The longer rows have allowed me to not hit the wall in the shorter rows - yes I am breathing hard and suffering but I am able to keep pace and not slow down and then still sprint at end.

Also - PBH - great job getting under 8:00 and by a ton! I see this number coming down more.
56 yo, 6'3" 205# PBs (all since turning 50):

I have tested 4 different rows in the last two weeks and set PRs in all of them. Last night was the 1K and while I was thinking I could PR I wasn't expecting to lower it by 4 seconds when it was already pretty decent but......3:04.9! I have been enjoying setting these PRs but I probably need to just get back to training. I can't tell you how much the longer rows have helped my shorter rows and that's due to advice I got on this forum.
That's a really powerful row Keith, well done

Well done PBH. The second sub 8 2k is possibly a mental block now. Now that you know you can do it, the second one will happen. Just visualise it over and over and tell yourself that you've done it before and it's happening again. A simple mantra to repeat in your head is great too. This can be anything you like as long as it's short and simple, maybe favourite song lyric? I used to say "I Can. I Will. I Must" when I was doing my 12hr challenge training. Anything to take your mind off it as it helps the time pass quicker.

Good stuff! Your 10k and 30min PBs look very soft - they're slower than mine . A 10k under 42min should be doable.

Those are both rows that I've never truly attempted a "best". Most of my 30' rows are done <= 20spm, and I try to limit HR to <160. I know I could beat that distance...
Same with the 10k -- just never truly tried.

Happy to brag... 55 years old (210lb), started row on the 4th June this year and struggled to row 2km. Thought I was fairly fit. However I have logged 185000m since then - and I'm improving my pbs.
2000m 7.43, 5000m 19.54.3, 6000m 24.04.9, 10000m 41.55 (one attempt so far) - I started on a setting of 5/6 - but some of my pbs are now at a 7.

Looking to break 7.30, and perhaps aim for 19.30, and around 40min for the 10km. Should I drop down from a 7 setting? to help this or should i just keep experimenting

Any thoughts

Learn about the damper setting. The position of the lever isn't, necessarily, the same on every machine (I found one in a hotel which was so full of dust, crud, lint and cruft that "setting 10" on that machine was equivalent to "setting 4" on a clean machine).

Drop that setting, and read about training and rating in rowing, those goals are very doable. Bit depending on your height.
Most sessions should be longer and rate lower, think 18/22, this will build endurance and a strong stroke.
Do also some interval work, faster and free rate (higher 26/32 ish)
