Interestingly enough, I looked again today and the .FIT files now have the correct timezone. Not sure when they fixed it and it's not automatic, but at least now I can manually transfer .FIT files over to Garmin Connect and they'll appear as Indoor Rowing workouts.

Unfortunately, I notice that if I manually upload .FIT files to Garmin Connect, everything comes out fine, and it's marked as an indoor rowing activity type. But Garmin Connect for some stupid reason expects a total number of strokes, which apparently isn't included in the .FIT file since it's 0.

Anyway for C2 to include the Stroke Count into the .FIT file?

FRiC, I notified concept2 support about this and they have fixed their fit file. All workouts going forward should provide an accurate total stroke count in Garmin Connect.

Thanks, just tried and works as expected. I guess this is the next best thing to automatic integration. :?

It's all we have right now. I learned from a software developer who partners with Garmin that they don't allow anyone to put data into Garmin Connect automatically, you can only do it with a Garmin device. We should still keep pushing for it though. Maybe they could have "Garmin certified" non Garmin devices.

From reading this thread I imagine all those sites/apps that sync data into Garmin Connect must be against Garmin's terms of service. I wonder how hard it is to write one myself...

Define "all of those". I don't know of any that put data into Garmin Connect, only copy activities out. To write your own you would need to pay Garmin $5, 000 and they would give you access to the API. From what I understand if they catch you automatically copying data in from outside sources they would cut your access off.

Tapiriik? Syncmytracks? I remember using Syncmytracks to sync my rowing workouts from Strava into Garmin Connect, but probably due to a bug or feature they all imported as running workouts, then they got automatically synced back into Strava as running workouts so I ended up with duplicates all over the place.

Tapiirik stopped syncing to Garmin a couple years ago after Garmin rolled out autosync. Syncmytracks uses a sketchy workaround of logging in as you (vs using a programming API) and they also don't support fit files which is the preferred file type these days. Here is an interesting article about Garmin autosync: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/06/cou ... c-api.html

Regardless of what Garmin wants, if anyone can convince one of the existing software developers (fitnesssyncer, syncmytracks, tapiirik, etc) to extend their app, or if you want to write your own app to move the fit file from the concept 2 logbook over to Garmin Connect, I will be happy to test it and if it works would pay to use such a service.

Would be a nice feature. I used to use Connect as my central location. Now I use Strava for consolidated activity tracking. It automatically receives my Concept2 logbook data and any Garmin run/swim/bike/etc data. I especially like the free Stravistix Chrome extension which creates graphs of fitness vs fatigue (similar to TrainingPeaks) to keep me motivated to work out regularly with whatever crosstraining I'm doing.

We are currently working with Garmin to send workouts from the Logbook to Garmin Connect for people who connect their accounts, and are in final stage beta testing. This means any workout sent to the Logbook from an app such as ErgData will automatically be in Garmin Connect.

This should be completed by the end of the month. In the interim, you can download Fit files from the Logbook and manually import them into Garmin Connect.

David, that is great to hear! I look forward to using this new feature. For anyone who rows, does other sports too, and uses a Garmin device this will be killer. Especially those all-day activity tracking devices that try and make predictions about your training load and recovery. Thanks!
