Getting data to connect to other apps and things

Post by laserfj » July 23rd, 2018, 1:36 pm

I searched through the forums and I found a couple threads saying people had done this but couldn't find an explanation as to how--

How do I get the data from a workout onto the computer or online in a format that has all the detailed data in it (like constant measurements of pace/power, HR, SPM, etc)?

When I export from the logbook, all it shows me is the data for each split, not all the detailed data. Is there something obvious that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

What are you using to export the data? I'm using the ErgData app and get detailed stroke data for all my rows by default. Before that I used a USB drive to save the rows and then uploaded to the C2 logbook. I think that also gave the detailed stroke data.

The only things that didn't save stroke data, if I remember correctly, were the old log cards (that look like a bank card), or if you did a session of intervals using RowPro.

PM5 + smartphone:
Use ErgData wirelessly on a smartphone. This is by far the easiest solution.

PM3/4 + smartphone:
You will need a special cable, and it will not work with all smartphones. If you get the cable working, Ergdata may work. Or not. In my case it was "not".

PM3/4 + computer:
You just need a normal printer cable to make the connection. And then you need some software. I have used RowPro, but I ended up writing my own software, based on the free PMI plugin for Excel.

Just be warned that ergdata isn't totally reliable. It has failed five times in the past four weeks e.g. halfway through the session and not pausing at all it suddenly thinks I have stopped for no apparent reason. It happened again this morning.

Yes, I've just had an ErgData failure - splits data hasn't gone through to the logbook, can't download the TCX or FIT files, and the workout has completely failed to push through to Strava. Posted about it in another thread (in the online racing sub-forum).

What model of phone are you using? Is it "Ergdata on Android" or "Ergdata on OSX" that fails?

Android. I had it work seemingly perfectly this morning for the whole 10 miles and then at the end it just didn't record it at all.

Does your PM5 have good batteries?

It's a gym erg but they are Duracells. I might buy some and swap them or try another erg.
