You can smell the wet dog....they had such good fun !
Whew! The heat wave that's scorching the US is not leaving Colorado alone either - and makes the fire situation even worse. Would have been nice to stay up in the high 70s weather, except for the computer part. Feel like I had an electronics intervention! Thank you all for your patience. Today's stats will have info from 7/4, 7/5, and 7/6. A veritable trifecta of numbers!

Wow, Eagle Eyed Shaun, you! I hadn't noticed the palindrome ... and had no idea how you picked up on that ... till I saw the "training partner" options!

Whoop, K2! A new workout toy in your home gym! You're going to love the bike erg ... I spend a half hour on both ergs, most days, but much prefer the bike. (Now that my anatomy has become inured to the new pressure points!) The bike erg gives you more meters for your efforts ... but makes no impact on your fitbit. Unless you attach the fitbit to your foot, or the pedal. (But, as I mostly use my fitbit for time and date purposes, no problems!)

Been thinking about ordering one myself K2. Let me know how you like it... headed to Seattle for a couple weeks to spend time with my family. Won’t have a rower but I will go out on the water at the University of Washington a few days hoping I can get some time with their crew team.

Another episode...bunny trails of the mind...
Or maybe this episode should be called mountain goat trails of the mind. You all know the song..."high on a hill stood a lonely goatherd"...followed by a lot of yodeling. This is the time of year where the mountain goats and their kids are out and about in the subalpine to alpine strata (10,000 to 11,500 ft is subalpine). That said, most of us see these wondrous rock climbers either in a zoo or in photographs. Some of my friends are actively pursuing climbing a few 14ers each summer, and this is the first year that they've encountered small herds of these mountain goats...with kids. I asked for a few photos to share with all of you, and a couple to show how the distance perspective changes as you look at the summit...a summit that seems like it is RIGHT there, when in fact it is a mile away. Clear blue sky day this past Monday, on a peak near Alma, CO.
This is about 13,000 ft. The last mile is a 1,000 ft elevation gain through a boulder field. There is a whole line of humans making their way up this peak!
Encountered the goat herd on the way back down the peak.
Protective mama (nanny goat) and kid...the kids start climbing really early.
Not sure how I would do climbing a 14'er. 11 mile hike for the peak pictured and I believe it took 7 hours with a half hour rest at the top. Cool stuff !

K2, thanks for sharing the mountain goat trail pix. They look like Shaun's distant cousins.
