Rowing goals for this year are pretty basic:

1) Get back to lightweight (did that last week)
2) Get back under 17:30 for 5K

Next year I have some slightly higher targets

I tend to measure time by BIRCs - so two main goals by mid-November are

2k <= 6:49.9
10k <= 37:59.9

I'm new to this and my goals are sad in comparison...

sub-40 10k (PR 41:48.6)
sub-19 5k (PR 19:53.0)

I'm not sure I can obtain either goal, but that's why I set them where I did.

I'd also like to do a sub-7 2k, but I've never done one. A sub-7:20 is probably more realistic... any advice?

Thanks George!

Chris Tippin (new WR holder of the 20-29 LW 100k) has set up a training schedule for me, so I've got a plan. Now, I just need to make time to meet up with him at lunch to work on form.

I did my 1st 2k ever today: 7:36.6. Oh my, did the beer taste good later. I was trying to break 7:40, and up until about 650m to go.... I thought my goal was "soft". I have SO MUCH MORE respect for y'all than ever before. Every time I laughed tonight, I started coughing and thought my lungs were going to come out. However, I'm excited about the challenging opportunities ahead.

By the way, I'm just a washed up high school athlete who has not taken very good care of himself over the last 15 years.

I know the "man in the mirror" and he scares me!

My goals for the end of the year on the erg are:

2k in 6:30 (currently 6:45)
row a full marathon

I'm almost 16 and i havn't been erging long. I got a 6:45 a few weeks ago after only a few tries at the 2k. Does it sound like a reachable goal to get a 6:30 on the 2k by the end of the year and mayb a 6:25 by feb of 2005? I will definitely be working my ass off for it. Also, when I am training on the erg in the months to come does it sound like a good idea to do 5-10k each day? and if so strapless? I havn't tried strapless yet.

-Josh

I have been out of commission for a couple of months with a shoulder injury, but the only targets I didn't hit last year that remain for this year:

Sub 7 in the 2k
complete another FM (my 2nd)

Sockman: since I can row a sub 19 5k right now, that isn't going to get you or me a sub 7 2k. I need to get quite a bit faster, and be able to carry that speed that for a lot longer. At least down to 18:30, and probably faster than that.
