End of stroke
End of stroke
Hi
am I rowing incorrectly??
I accelerate my stroke (using force graph) ending at about the sternum (or maybe a bit lower).
however observing a few rowers lately, they seem to be finishing with the handle nearer the top of the chest. probably giving a longer stroke?? potential Shoulder probs??
What is the best ??
Thank bob

Re: End of stroke
On an erg, form is a little different than a boat. You sometimes see more layback and strokes finishing high on the chest or even near the collarbone (extreme) to lengthen the stroke. In a boat that doesn't work and finishing near the sternum with a moderate layback is appropriate.
The erg force curve is good to watch. If you are keeping it a nice round/humped shape, with minimal tailing off at the finish, you're doing fine, regardless of where you finish.

I'm neither an expert nor a racer, so that may explain what I'm about to say, but IMO the "end with handle high on chest" folks look silly and inelegant.
This looks just about perfect to me:

There's probably a good reason why C2 suggest flat wrists.

Google wrist flexion and median nerve entrapment.

I for one always pull the handle behind my head. That's the only way I can get a 2m drive length!Dangerscouse wrote:Ditto. It just feels weird pulling any higher

All guides suggest to pull it to your "bra line". Just got to buy one of those women's sport bras and check you are doing it right
I have myself tested pulling it longer and even flex the wrists a bit at the end and times get better with less effort but then I go back to normal.
