Almost 10 sec improvement on my previous 1K.
Sub 3 minutes was to hard today, less than 4 hours sleep(baby did not want to sleep all night)
Still happy with the result(considering I’m not a sprinter type), 1 sec behind my row pb.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Today was trial day for my 5k. My best 5k was on 4/30: 20:42.9 @ 2:04.2
I felt confident going into today's row. Here's the results:
5k
20:28.5 @ 2:02.8
I was happy with my splits on this row:
Meters Pace Watts S/M
1000 2:04.4 182 25
2000 2:03.6 185 25
3000 2:03.2 187 26
4000 2:02.9 189 25
5000 2:00.0 202 26
I was a little disappointed with how quickly my HR went up. I was over 170 (172) in the second 1000m, kept it to 176 in the third 1000, and peaked at 188 during the last 500m. I guess that's to be expected when pushing hard.
4 more weeks, and we'll try this again.

fwiw, I won't use a HRM when I'm doing a TT or have a hard session. My HR also jumps quickly and the HRM is an unnecessarily effort limiter/governor.

Well done PBH.
I totally agree with Ray on HR monitors especially for TTs. That will have been subconsciously worrying you and slowing you down; that has happened to me before. The mental battle is lost just when you really need your head to be working with you.

I agree... I havent used a heart monitor yet... but I dont listen to music and often wear earplugs so I can hear my breathing and heart more clearly... after months of this, you can instinctively feel when you are pushing just that little bit too hard.

If $1,000 fell from a tree, I'd get one of these machines, but shooting for the long distances, e.g. 50K. I've no chance of competing with the monsters on the sprints .

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
OK, so this was probably a slightly soft PB considering I've done 17:55 for 5K (that would suggest ~10s faster is possible, and "Paul's Law" suggests a variance 1.3s/500m between 5K and 6K so THIS effort today would suggest 18:03 is possible for 5K and the only time I've pulled that other than that 17:55 last summer was an 18:02 I pulled ~2005!!) but I've prioritised weights in the last few months and haven't been near my PBs from late 2016 and into 2017 for a while now, so I am pleased with this. Been knocking on the door of a sub 22min 6K for a while now, and I took a rest day yesterday and haven't done weights for a week, so I felt good on this. I backed off from 1500m-1200m to go (the average maxed at 1:50.5) and then nearly actually HDd at 400m to go but so glad I didn't because as you can see I brought it home quickly...and with my eyes closed! haha. This was a pretty good effort given the form I have right now judging by how I felt at the end. Pleased. Onwards!
And just for good measure I'm now top of the C2 rankings for a LWT at the distance...I've screen grabbed this PDQ because my #1 position will go very soon!

Great effort Paul, to almost have HDed at 400m to go shows just how hard you were pulling.
I hate 6k distance. I think it's the Team Oarsome monthly challenge for June so it looks like I'll be trying it again soon.
