Radon is a naturally occurring gas that comes from decaying uranium in the soil. It seeps into your house through the basement as cracks and other things happen over time, and its levels will change over time. Colorado is considered a red state (for these purposes) because levels for most of the state are above 2-4 pCi/L. Continued exposure to radon increases your probability of developing cancer, especially lung cancer. So. Now that I KNOW that I'm DOOMED after 25 years here (and once upon a time smoker in my younger and more foolish years)....I am getting the radon mitigation done before I exercise downstairs. Live in the moment because who knows what will happen.

Well, goodness, one positive discovery this weekend ... very low levels of radon in my county! Yellow is our friend. Now, I only have to angst about the exploding volcano, and lava flowing ever-onward toward our next month's vacation rental in Hawaii ... a duck couple trying to establish residence in our pool ... and, receiving my jury duty notice for next month!

My Learned Luna-Tic Friends,

I last used a Concept2 machine (the rower) on April 19, 2018 and so have contributed nothing to our Team's 2019 meters. This is the longest I have gone without rowing since I acquired my rower two weeks after completing my 70th orbit around the sun in April 2012. It is indeed eerie to see a big fat zero next to my name on the Challenge board for the new season. On April 20, 2018 I had surgery to repair a decades old left inguinaI hernia, and I was told by the surgeon that I would have to wait at least one month before rowing again, so that I expect a further delay until May 20th before making any contribution to the Luna-Tic's standing. I will see him on May 10th. He may or may not then modify the timetable. In the meantime, I am allowed to walk and have graduated to an approximate normal pace from that of a procession in a coronation. One is grateful for small things, but I am not handling this inactivity at all well.

On a brighter note, I am pleased to read how well everyone is doing this marathon season. Hoping to return soon.

I've seen several of those volcano movies ... I enjoy a good disaster movie, from time to time. I was actually thinking about Dante's Peak, a couple of nights ago ... grandma sacrifices herself to save the family ... yikes, kept me awake for hours! So, I got up and ordered two children's' books on Pele (volcano not soccer) for the grands.

Thanks to you, DanWho, and the others who sent their thoughts for a successful recovery. I see the surgeon tomorrow, which is 20 days after he repaired the hernia. I am feeling really well, and so am optimistic he will tell me I am recovering nicely. Tom (Tombeur)
