Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Bittersweet. Good bit first, this is a 7 seconds improvement on my very old 2k ( I did 6:45 circa eight years ago) BUT it was supposed to be part of an interval session for this month's CTC, with three more 500m sprints to follow. My back spasmed and threw me off course and I couldn't get back on track.
I think with hindsight I could have got 6:35 or possibly 6:34 as I was holding that until 500m to go and I then didn't mentally dig in enough to maintain it.
Not too bad considering my sprint training entirely consists of a 500m sprint at the end of a 10 mile row. With some more focus I might get closer to 6:30

Superb effort Lance, great job.lancecampeau wrote:Shaved 77 seconds off my old PB in the 50K tonight... Could have done better if I had properly prepared for it.... In reality, I'm just happy to have finished because I wanted to give up SO many times during this piece, it was extremely difficult. As you can see by the splits... I front loaded the effort so I could take a full 90 second break at 25km then cruise a bit in the second half... This technique helped bring me a respectable PB in the marathon a few weeks ago as well...

Yeah, now I have done it, it.doesnt feel like such a daunting task. I might have a sub 6:30 2k as my next challenge or a sub 36mins 10k; I need to do both of these at some point.JerekKruger wrote:@Stu - nicely done. You should definitely work towards a true 2k.
I'm also planning on going BRIC and the English Indoor Champs in Feb 19 as they are fairly close to me

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Last Thursday I rowed a 5k PB. This was at the end of "cycle 1" (4th week) for an 8 (or 12) week program I've been following.
To start "cycle 2" the program called for another 5k with the target pace to be my fastest 5k. So I programmed that in for my workout this morning: 5k @ 2:05.
I shaved 10 seconds off that PB of last week for a new 5k PB: 20:42.9 @ 2:04.2
I felt a little better with this row than I did last week. I think the biggest difference was just knowing that I could handle the pace from last week (plus a little more).

#Skierg
My first 6K TT on the Skierg. Around 30 sec behind the WR at the moment. Felt good all the way to the finish, sub 21 min should already be possible.
"Fun" facts :
1. Last 5K of this 6K was done at a time of 17:31.3, that would have been a 5K PB.
2. Last 2K of this 6K was done at a time of 6:51.3, that would have been a 2K PB.
3. Better than the current British records on the 6K for the skierg regardless of age class, not sure if that tell us more about the Brits than me
4. Beat the current 6K WR in the 19-29 age group
5. It's about time update my ranking distances on the skierg
6. Getting older so need all the positive signs I can get

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I hit a 5k PB this evening of 20:52.4. I'm making some solid improvements since starting 4 - 5 workouts a week in March with new PBs every week as I increase my cardio.
This was just a regular row on the 9 week plan I put together and I'm a bit sleep deprived so I didn't start out trying to make a best. In fact I hit some sort of wall at the midpoint and almost dropped the handle and almost stopped completely but recovered quickly, dropped my HR a bit and finished off with a new PB by 3 sec.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Tackled the 30' tonight as previous PB was below my projected result based on all my PBs from 1min to 10k. Improved it from 6,182m to 6,328m:
30:00, 6328, 2:22.2, r24
05:00, 1048, 2:23.1, r24
10:00, 1043, 2:23.8, r24
15:00, 1044, 2:23.6, r24
20:00, 1047, 2:23.2, r23
25:00, 1056, 2:22.0, r24
30:00, 1090, 2:17.6, r25
Think I have more to give - really felt in the groove once the timer was counting down from 9mins left.
Now have to give attention to my 6k, 4min and 1mile.

Nice work on the 30’, Paul. Keep doing the CTC and IRL next season. The iRL should help with standard distances and the CTC is meant to move us out of our comfort zones.
