Bike Erg v Wattbike

Post by LloydyH85 » April 20th, 2018, 2:27 pm

Hi everyone,

hope you are all well.

I am on the lookout for a new exercise bike and have had my eye on the wattbike for quite some time but with the launch of the new bike erg I am now not sure what bike to go for, I must say i am thoroughly impressed with C2 as a company and a huge fan of the rower so am thinking i would rather get the bike erg, plus its half the price of the wattbike which i think is actually a little overpriced at just over 2k, I haven't seen any reviews anywhere yet but a select few seem to have the bike erg, i was just curious to whats peoples thoughts were and if they had used both how they compare? If the Bike erg is anything like the rower its bound to be a solid machine! I am just looking for something to keep my cycling going during the winter and HIIT workouts :)

I think you're comparing apples against oranges.

The Bikeerg is £980. The Wattbike Atom is £1,499, the Pro is £2,250.

I'm curious about this too. What do you get by spending the extra money for a watt bike.

On the erg side of things, this a bit like comparing a Rowperfect RP3 versus a Concept2 Model D on slides. Beyond the obvious price difference, there is an interesting comparison at the feature level and strong opinions on both sides.

I'm in the middle of building a home gym and have spent the last year using a Wattbike in the gym - love it! With that in mind I was thinking of getting a Wattbike ATOM for home, the trainer and Pro are overkill (for me anyway) and hadn't realised that Concept were designing a bike so I'll jump on the - me too bandwagon. It's either the concept or the ATOm for me and both are very different. At the moment the ATOm is edging it even though it's £500 more expensive.

Wattbike sent me an ATOM back in October to test and I liked it, slightly concerned with the gears etc but apparently things have improved a lot with software updates. decisions, decisions!

Good question. I know both bikes really well as I've spent the last year training on a Wattbike, and now I've just brought a BikeErg. Putting cost to one side (£2250 v £980) the Wattbike is probably the better bike, but the BikeErg is by far the better buy. Watts for watts I get the same results on both bikes, so they're calibrated almost the same. Wattbike probably feels more like real cycling, like that slightly 'gritty' road feel, whereas BikeErg feels more like an air bike. Both machines give absolutely fantastic workouts. The Wattbike monitor is more sophisticated than the BE, so you'll get far more info about your sessions, but a lot of the extra info you get isn't necessarily of need to most people. Both are comfy, I marginally prefer the BE seat over WB but not a lot in it, and both feel good to do a variety of different sessions on. Concept 2 also have rankings, challenges, etc and the BE comes with the well known PM5 monitor, so you'll probably have far more people around to compare like for like sessions with.

If cost isn't an issue then I'd go Wattbike. If it is then I'd definitely go BikeErg. The Wattbike is definitely not more than twice as good, even though it's priced more than twice as much!

Head over to the BikeErg Facebook page if you have any more questions.

Thanks for your detailed reply on both bikes!

After Months of going back and forth between the two bikes i decided on getting the bike Erg and have just ordered one so very very excited to try it! I like that fact that with the bike Erg you get all the challenges and leader boards that i think really help people stay motivated! I have also had nothing but fantastic customer service from the company in the past and so am happy to give them more of my money! I also feel that i will get more out of my rower now too by using them together, In Fact I might have to get a ski erg at some point to complete the set :P Also i think with the bike erg being half the price of the wattbike it has kind of sealed the deal! I was also impressed with the how the bike has been designed to be such low maintenance like the rower.

Looking forward to forming a new love/hate relationship with the new machine :)
