My 1st pulls are very poor, the best I have done is 1:48, but most of the time they sit aound 1:55-1:57. (Don't know what that is in Watts)

Sir Pirate

I've pulled a 1:31 in a race. No idea what it is in watts.

http://www.triton.studver.uu.nl/ergomet ... br>
Use this PDF-file to see how much watt you pull

Graham yours is 464 and Phil yours is 277.

I'm happy if I could get my second pull to the 464 watt Graham pulls with his first pull. I get around 1:32 (449 watt) to 1:35 (408 watt) right now on my second pull.

One word of advice to those trying, do a warm up before you try a max pull.

I usually start a 500 at about half slide and not to much stretch but have seen people with arms / body fully extended to give one reeeeeaaaallllly long first pull predominantly with back and arms.

Andy tends to start right up close to the "gate” part on the row (The tall part that houses the monitor arm). He also uses the “knees apart” technique and just seems to pull as hard as he can. He does rate very low though. In the 100K World Record he was hitting 1:11 splits at 36spm. He has some amazing power.

Sir Pirate
This is VERY impressive rowing by Graham Benton when we were training for the 100K Team Realy-

On a 10 sec sprint in training his first 5 pulls: (Info gained from Jon Goodall)

1st Pull: 1:41

2nd Pull: 1:18

3rd Pull: 1:07

4th Pull: 1:05

5th Pull: 1:04

I think you need to also know that this was done with no warm up, he just jumped straight on and did this. Some of the other MAD Teamers missed it, so Graham said he could have another go at hitting a 1:04 low split, so on he got and done it again

Sir Pirate
It would be interesting to see how long it took to get down to your max split and how long you could hold it.

Also I guess your max split with a 'normal' stroke compared to a short basically 'arms only' effort where you are just whizzing up the wheel. I am thinking that the max stroke would need to involve everything and be explosive but a prolonged effort would be a more abnormal 'spinning' effort.

George, you are correct in what you say. Nearly all the guys on the 100K World Relay Record used very little or if any slide. It is just about keeping that fan spinning.
Even in change overs the splt sometimes would only drop to a 1:26 then after a single pull from the next guy it would be back at 1:10.

I would say the most slide any of the top guys use while doing a fastest pull would be around 6"-8" if even that.

Sir Pirate
