Training

Post by [old] mraRower » May 27th, 2004, 11:20 pm

This summer, I plan to get exponentially faster ( ). I am planning on doing this by going to the gym and doing hardcore sessions mainly focusing on back, legs, and abs. I plan to cross train by doing loads of hiking, mountain biking, and long runs. However, the captain of our team has told us to rarely touch the erg. What do you make of this? He says that you will burn out. I plan to do some erging, I was going to do a lot more but have scaled down from my previous plans.

What training will you do?

I have 4 exams in 4 weeks time and have a lot to learn (here in Berlin-in German). Then I will be meeting friends in Brussels for the weekend, 2 days at home before heading off for 3months in Peru.

So no training over the summer. Just as every summer, as I get to around the 6:30 mark for 2k I take 3/4 months off and start again in October slow again.

well, I honestly would say burnout depends upon how fun you can make it for yourself. I am trying to put together a boat for canadian henley, so I am most likely doing 2-a-days for a month or so, tech rows in the morning, and power work on the erg in the afternoon; then scaling back a bit in late July.

Hi,

in my opinion all those other things will add some value to your desire to row faster but nothing as much as rowing itself. Now would be the time to row long, easy, and consistantly if you want to have the ability to go hard when it really counts ...... which is not the off season.
