Best wishes to her. I started with this 15 years ago - diagnosed as epilepsy. As you say, anyone can have a one-off seizure. If you have a second, then the docs will take the details of the symptoms and try to diagnose it from that. In many cases, it's epilepsy, as by definition, that is the tendency to have recurrent seizures. They can do MRI and EEG scans just to see if they can pin the cause down to anything in particular e.g. some physical damage, but in most cases there's no cause determined - everyone has a threshold and hence the capability to have a seizure, but some are closer to the threshold than others. There can be various trigger factors to make you more vulnerable at particular times e.g. alcohol, tiredness, stress.Dreadfish wrote:Thanks ... she had another one off incident about 18 months ago. A seizure. went through the whole hospital routine and they concluded it was a random event with no real reason as to why it happened. Apparently you are allowed one seizure in your life. When you have a second they start getting serious in finding out what's wrong.
Anyway... back on track with the mud challenge. Should get in 6 sessions this week
I had to stop driving for a few years while they did a load of trial and error with various medications and doses. There's lots of different types of seizure and this affects the prescribed medication(s). That was a pain, as I would go say 6 months and then have another seizure which meant seeing the neurologist again (another delay) and then trying a higher dose. Eventually, a particular combination did the trick for me (with no side effects fortunately) - hence I'm now "fully controlled" and have been for several years. I don't feel any different and I can still do all the things I want to do (never been a big alcohol consumer).

Really good efforts. At least you left nothing in the tank Lindsay, which is what happens if you do what I did i.e. go too cautious on the 1st.lindsayh wrote:CTC x2 tonite

Re: Forum Flyers
@Paul. yeah we are being a bit cautious at this stage with her and the instant response when we went to the Hospital re the seizure was no driving for 12 months. which wore pretty thin after about a week lol lucky for us our daughter had just got her licence and was eager to drive everywhere.
and yes i need to update my sig for that new effort. ive been doing a fair amount of 30 min sessions lately and the distances are slowly increasing.

Re: Forum Flyers
Jack, I have a serious lack of power so I do my best to make up for it with stroke rate. For the CTC and my most recent 30' I averaged 28spm. As I approach my peaks I need more stroke rate to get faster times. In my prime my PB for 5K was at 31spm and my marathon at abut 28spm. Endurance was my forte in my previous life as a long distance runner. My paces at those rates are much, much slower than someone like Lindsay would generate.jackarabit wrote:
Continuous 30’ aside, lot of brass in that run if anyone is wondering. I can imagine adding “ornery.” Can you use rates in the high 20s for 3k+? Wish I could but no horses in wishes.

You're welcome Jack and Lindsay, the Flyers are much better set up on here for looking after new folk than we are so will always point them in your direction.
Great to hear you've met up with Geraldine and Mike Lindsay, are you in our country at the moment or are they in yours?

M and G are actually here in Sydney at the moment for a family friend's wedding. First met Mike in 2010 at EIRC Manchester then in 2012 he came to the Pan Pacs on the Gold Coast then back to Sydney once since.
(he is currently off the erg after a stented coronary artery! but going really well and hopes to be back in the saddle soon)

World Erg Challenge?
Do we (team members) have to do anything other than row and sync the logbook?
I've read much of the parameters on the C2 website - but not clear how to participate.
Thanks
(promise I won't ask this question next year at this time)
