Image Day 3 or 4 (hemisphere dependent) of 31...

Hooboy!! Our mudslinging attempts to win the Concept2 daily lottery are like trying to win the Hamilton tickets lottery - without the trivia questions! We've had an uptick in participation from an average of 25 ergers a day over the last couple of weeks to 35 or so in the last couple of days! Not complaining - we're getting close to ONE HUNDRED MILLION TEAM METERS for the season! Good stuff.

5K total participants = 6520 in the erging universe, and 46 Lunies
10K total participants = 2480 in the erging universe, and 21 Lunies

These proportions are fairly usual for this Challenge btw.

Image Day 4 or 5 of 31....it's a total mudbath!

I threw the mudbath bit in there so I could say "speaking of mudbaths..." and so we are. Just when you think Napa Valley is all about wine, and that maybe the recent fires might be causing some issues with mud, along comes awareness that there are some geothermal pop ups in the area. Now anyone who has watched multiple re-runs of Dante's Peak will remember what happened to the young couple who decided to jump into an area hot spring. Enough to make you hesitate to jump into any batch of naturally occurring warm water. Meanwhile, the spa-people and roman bath people were busy capturing this muddy wonder and touting its therapeutic effects. Helps with arthritis? Now there's a temptation. Still it is offset as an experience in my mind by the photos from one of the spas (and you thought Calistoga was all about water): https://visitcalistoga.com/mud-bath-exp ... gs-resort/ Getting the mud off might be quite time consuming.

So hope you are enjoying the start of the Muddy Challenge - I'm having my own muddy challenge with snow melt, dog paws and trying to keep it all outside.

5K challenge participants in the erging universe = 7,889 and 52 Lunies!

10K challenge participants in the erging universe = 3,156 and 28 Lunies!

We have a couple more days to build up to a towering number of participants....and then the drop will begin.....drop as in dropped from the Challenge. Keep plugging away so you'll have some days to "play" with towards the end when you are getting tired of Mud Season.

Image Day 6 or 7 of 31....

Today is a factoring kind of date: 3-6-18....

Total 5K participants in the erging universe = 10,189 (gasp) and 58 in the Lunaverse
Total 10K participants in the erging universe = 4,194 (now that's an increase over previous years!) and 30 in the Lunaverse (down a few people from previous years)

Image After Midnight...Image the countdown begins!! Looking back at the Lunie Chronicles, we will see a rapid drop in overall participants remaining in the Challenge. Lunies stay the course....no one wants to loosen their hold. Love this stuff !

Back when there was more time in the day....here's a throwback Tuesday graphic for you from 2010: Pretty amazing uptick in total participants in just a few years! I had more time then...

Does your old grey mare or black stallion require some lovin

Post by Thor MW » March 6th, 2018, 2:23 pm

Is it time to oil that pony’s chain?

It's been quite a while since I posted a reminder.

Go to Your Log, Season Summary, Near the bottom of the table is the title Overall. Make note of your hours under the Total Time column.

Every 50 Hours of Use Weekly for Institutional Users
Lubricate the chain with a teaspoon of purified mineral oil, 3-IN-ONE® oil, or 20W motor oil. Apply oil to a paper towel, and rub the paper towel along entire length of chain. Wipe off the excess. Repeat if needed. Do not clean the chain with any kind of cleaner or solvent, e.g. WD-40®.
I wipe down the chain first to remove any dirt. Then I apply the new oil. I also do this with two people one holding the handle all the way out. And the other doing the wiping. If you have more than one person riding then you need to combine both of your hours. There are other things we should be doing such as checking all nuts to be certain they are tight, check the handle connection to the chain for wear and replace as needed. Take a flashlight to the fly wheel to see if it’s dusty in there. Read the Concept2.com site for all details.
A well-groomed erg is a happy erg.

Keep on rock'n.
