Re: Obese Man Rowing Tokyrow
Sorry - not deliberately ignoring the posts - As well as being obese I am also a bit slow on the IT uptake too! I thought I would get prompts to say that people had posted. I will come on here more often from now on.
Many thanks for all the advice and the lovely comments. As Erik above says - you can monitor me at the website - but I really didn't think that many people on here would be that interested as many (if not most) of you are much further along/advance with this erging mullarkey than I am. Truth be told I am a bit humbled by the interest.
I am a little behind but I am still confident that I can do this. Attention to the mental side is definitely something that I need to address - I am not trying to shed loads of weight quickly but it is coming off slowly - I am now at my lowest winter weight for 10 years but I am still morbidly obese. This is part of the reason that I am increasing things at a steady rate - plan now is increase by 10% for three weeks, drop back on the fourth (to the same as the second) and continue like that. I am very conscious of my back injury and so every time I feel a twinge I ease back a little Trying to be consistent rather than doing loads and then having to have several months off. I did have a bit of an accident and then illness which lost me a bit of progress towards the end of last year but i am back on track again now.
I plan to complete it but even if I don't make it - I WILL (am) get positive changes out of this. I have already covered about 30% more distance this season, than my best ever, as I say, my weight is down, times are starting to come down and a few weeks' ago my doctor said "You do NOT have a blood pressure problem" (for the first time in fifteen years)!
Thanks again for all of the comments/advice and support. Really is very much appreciated.

Trust me, your challenge is very humbling to many of us. All things are relative and you're an inspiration to me for certain.

Thank you.
You are right - we are all on our own journey and looking at YOUR times certainly puts the “performance” side of what I am doing into perspective! I’d kill (almost) for getting close to those - still struggling to get sub 8 for 2k!
I can do slow and steady but the moment it requires getting out of breath...

Nice to read the you are still at it OMR!
I'm feeling fitter and stronger in the 5 weeks I've been rowing. The Interactive weight Loss Programme has been amazing so far.
Keep it up fella.

Re: Obese Man Rowing Tokyrow
Thanks OMR. There are tons of far better rowers than me, but I just try and achieve the best that I can on a given day. I fell into the trap of comparison and quickly realised it's totally pointless and counter productive.
Admiration for speed and power is a standard human instinct but when you see something intangible, like will power and 'guts' it's just as impressive in my eyes as this is something that doesn't come as easily. Your challenge is certainly in the category of extreme admiration.
