Roughness at end of stroke
At the end of the downstroke there is a harshness on my machine. Is this a cord issue or a spool issue. Doesn't feel dreadful but off putting and I don't want to make it worse.
Re: Roughness at end of stroke
what type of skierg are you using? SkiErg 1 or SkiErg 2?
I have noticed on my SkiErg2 that there can be a clunking feel at the bottom of the stroke, after a bunch of troubleshooting it seems that there is some horizontal play with the flywheel axle. the free movement of the axle allows it to shift creating an abrupt stopping sensation felt through the handle and clunking noise near the bottom of the stroke.
you can see this if you remove the side panel and flywheel cover and push/pull the flywheel in and out. when using the machine it is much less exaggerated but the axle travel seems to be the cause.
I’ve noticed on two SkiErg 2’s

It is a skierg 1. Quite off putting.
Re: Roughness at end of stroke
Can you describe the harshness? or post a video of the issue?
I have owned and worked on both SkiErg 1 & SkiErg 2 machines; most common issue on SkiErg 1s that I have encountered with the end of the downstroke have been related to handle cord twisting. if you have a very long downstroke, then it can end abruptly and seem shortened.
if your mounted to a stand remove the upper & lower box frame cover plates (http://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us/sk ... ematic.pdf) and watch the cord travel. the traveling pulley can rotate creating a twist in the white handle cord & drive cord that seems to shorten the pull length and make the finish seem shortened and abrupt.
In extreme cases, I have seen the white drive cord jump over the edge of the drive spool and wrap around the flywheel axle which doesn’t immediately disable the machine but will keep the handles from returning fully to the top.

The spool had gaps when I looked. SImply pushed these back in place and is smooth as a whistle. So smooth in fact that I realized how rough it was. I had a spool like that on a 915 water rower and it was a nightmare, thankfully this wasn't. Thanks for the advice.

Hello,
I had the same thing on my SkiErg 2.
After some calls with the customer service, they decided to change it.

yes, great support from Concept2 ... after some troubleshooting and sending a video of the issue ... they did a replacement of my SkiErg 2. I noticed the behavior within a few weeks or receiving it from the factory.margoolo wrote:Hello,

I’m having roughness at the beginning of the pull only on the left side. Ten day old skierg. Could this be a similar issue? The rope isn’t twisted. It’s not super tough, barely noticeable really, but it’s bothersome.
