I'm back now. Thanks for the heads-up.
If you want to participate in the Military Challenge, you have to change to the affiliation that matches the service branch you want to represent. I forgot that participants had to do that - and we're certainly supportive of anyone participating in that challenge. At the end of February, you just switch your affiliation back to the Lunies!

That's what I thought too, but if you go to your Profile, one of the listings is for "Military Challenge". You can select
the service branch without changing your team affiliation. So I'm still affiliated with the "Luna-Tics" but also rowing for
the "U.S. Army Veterans". It carried over from last year, so I really didn't need to do anything. Duh. :)

Was out of contact at the end of the month but thanks for the caricature complete with "go fast" buzz cut and spectacles :D .

I admire the ability to do this on screen, I can't even properly increase font size!!

Image Not sure how to go about deployment?

Just like real life military deployment, stepping away from your team to participate in the Military Challenge often caused some major angst in the past - both for the individual and for the team! So Concept2 has improved how this works (and the presence of Skype and other tools has made the real life stuff a little bit easier, too). If you are eligible to participate in the Military Challenge by serving in a branch of the military currently or in your past, go to your logbook. (Actually, I think you should give this a try anyway -
just to see how it works!) Click on your photo or the graphic representing the virtual you. You'll see an opportunity to edit profile. Down the left side of the edit profile, scroll down to near the bottom of the selections, and you'll see Military Challenge. Click on this to select the branch of the service you want your meters to go towards. And exit out of the edit profile in your logbook. Just like that and you're signed up for your military service affiliation in tandem with your team affiliation. Thanks to Howard L and Tombeur for the clarification on the changes made by Concept2. I like to think that the constant lobbying for team members NOT to have to leave their year-round affiliation to participate helped make this change more affiliation friendly. It's all part of the refreshing and redesign on the Concept2 logbook - which has been awesome!

Jesse the cat had a follow up visit to the vet after having a dental procedure. Stuffing this big cat into his carrier is fraught with opportunity to swear, but on the day of the visit he was surprisingly agreeable to just walking into the carrier. I know. Shocker. Busy day at the vets, so there were a lot of people in the waiting area with their pets. Naturally, NATURALLY!, I talked with several while we were waiting. One gal came in with a Westie, and thinking it was a young dog, I asked how old he was. She said 8, and went on to share that she didn't know how she would have made it through the multiple deployments her husband served (to Afghanistan and other areas) without that Westie. Her husband's service requirement was ending in just a few days, and she said she looked forward to much less stress...because the uncertainty created with knowing that deployment could happen at any time was stressful. Our pets play lots of roles in our lives! And it was sure a reminder to me to check in more frequently with my own military service family members...

As for Jesse and the dental work, sometimes the cartoonists produce just the right thing on a day you need it:

Loon racing?

Post by Thor MW » February 3rd, 2018, 10:56 am

Our very own Janice is racing tomorrow at the regatta in Mississauga which is basically Toronto at the Hershey center. We are leaving shortly and going to spend the night so we can be there in lots of time for Janice’s race at 9 AM. I will not be competing his time as I am still on the injured list. The shoulder is improving and I hope to be more active next week. We will likely be out of touch until after we return on the morrow.
I will be tapping my white cane to keep Jan’s rhythm on track. Hmm, maybe.

Keep on rock’n.

Best of luck, Janice. I'll try tapping my foot in synch with Thor. But I could use a little heads up, are we going more Foghat's Slow Ride or AC/DC's Thunderstruck?

Hope this works. I finally was able to log in on the phone.
Well Dan, what do we call a song that changes rhythm often? Leading ultimately to the gasping fish.

Hmmm, maybe Time Warp fits the bill. It's just a jump to the left.
