Week 19 BPP. Snuck home during a break from work today for the 30 minute optional row. "Restrict the stroke rate to 22 or lower, and concentrate solely on technique, not worrying about the split time at all."

First time I've ever rowed looking only at stroke rate which I kept at 20spm and opted to go strapless to really focus on technique. Turned into an easy 2:14 pace for me but the session was very enjoyable.

12km is the SS piece to start next week.

Good Day,
I am off plan. It is really too bad, but I need to take a break. I picked my 4 year old up from the floor on Tuesday, felt my back seize up and dropped him. Luckily, he didn't get hurt and thought it was funny, but I can't lift my left arm over my head right now. This is my third day off recovering from it. I have withdrawn from next weeks race and will try and get back for Crash-B, but am not interested at all in having this linger through the spring, it needs to be fixed now.

Hope you all keep kicking butt in the meantime,

David

That's not good at all David. Unfortunately injuries are part of the process too. Make sure you rest well and see a doctor to make sure that you don't self-diagnose the issue.

You'll probably benefit from the rest but be prepared for some tough sessions when you come back

@David - that really sucks. I hope you recovery quickly and are able to get back to training soon, but do make sure you get it looked at by a good physio like Stu says.

@ David, I'm so sorry to hear that!! You've worked so hard but at least you've set two PBs. Remember at all times that this is really about long term health, not short term races. You've done an amazing job of getting in shape and shown an incredible ability to do well under stress. I have a feeling this is just a very short setback for you! Don't let it get you down.

I was going to post up today, I feel a bit under the weather too and I'm concerned going into tomorrow's race. I don't feel like I'm full blown sick but definitely feel like I might be fighting something off. I'm going to play it by ear tomorrow with the race. I'd be seriously disappointed if I couldn't race but not nearly as disappointed had I not just done a PB two or three weeks ago. I feel like I fought off something earlier in the year for a couple of days. I still worked all day today but had a massive headache all day and felt a bit lethargic.

I plan on getting up at 5:30AM and driving to Indy. If I have a bad morning when I wake up, that might be it and just call it a day. If I'm even feeling decent, I'll race and see what happens. To be honest, the day I set the PB a couple of weeks ago I woke up with a headache and didn't feel all that great and the TT still went fine. If I do race, I'll probably take Sunday off and then start back on Monday if I'm feeling it.

When things like this happen (and they do in the Winter a lot more!), just realize that we're all in this not for one event but for better health. David, I hope that's better sooner rather than later! All the best!

Only one guy entered in my age group so far but he raced a 7:14 last year, so I'm assuming he would be the perfect challenge for me! I don't know what his training has been like this year (if he's faster or slower) but doing a 7:14 or close would be awesome!

Only one guy in our age group? I'm tempted to fly up and enter so I could take 3rd place with my lousy 8:20.

Come on Mitchell! Would be fun! They actually will probably race 10 at a time. There are like 5 entered in the 40 to 49 group and around 5 over 60 in the heavyweights. There are also 3/4 very fast lightweight in the general age range too. I think, all told, around 15 slated to race at 9:45 AM. It's a very narrow field of 50 to 54 HWTs. 55 is another bracket.

Thanks Glenn! Feeling a bit better this evening. If I'm feeling like this, I'll definitely race. :D
