English is a crazy language. I have no idea how people who don't have it as their first language cope.

Ask Henri, his English is multiple orders of magnitude better than my Dutch. I can barely say "bier" in Dutch.

Thank you - Erg! ( C2 B)
I sure can relate to that! There was a time just few years ago that i hated my out of shape bod in the mirror! Now i'm happy and proud of what i see in that very same mirror  :D

Tis true... everywhere i look these days there seems to be a plethora of obese peeps out there, looking like heart attacks just waiting to happen.

I got a trap bar last year, helped me loads. I've always struggled with conventional deadlifts due to lower back issues.
I've been meaning to get myself a trap bar for yonks! I will pull the trigger one of these days.

My motivation to erg comes from basically the enjoyment of doing SS sessions, and knowing it's doing something good for me and keeping that fat off and in good health. Even though, i don't have any specific goals on the erg right now, i still look forward to getting on the erg. I had never rowed before in my life until 2016 though, so the interest is still thriving high. I am the type who can lose interest and motivation fast with things too... so the erg has definitely been the exception to that.

We could probably communicate together (German/Dutch), might be some funny missunderstandings, but it would work. Bavarian is a little different than higher German, but I can do both.
My company is swiss based so I have a lot of guys speaking swiss German or Schwiizerdütsch, which is a different kettle of fish. Most of them revert to higher german to be understood.
I think Henri speaks Flemish too or do they have a different dialect in the Flounders?

Luckily "bier" is the same..

I do understand German fine, speak it ok ish, need a day or 2 to get it dailed in better, but indeed both languages are close. Biggest difference is mentality, belgians are much less outspoken, dutch are often loud and know all  which ofcourse makes sense, cause we do

Flemish is not different at all, we can 100% understand and speak which each other. Its more of a dialect. We have other dialects which are much tougher. I speak my hometown dialect which my wife hardly does understand.

Just like you say about German, If I hear a skier on tv from the mountains or people from up north, very different.

My wife (non dutch) works in very international environent, always funny to hear all the different kinds of english. The south europeans are the most funny, in my ears.

I think over time, this "new" english will become the standard and overwrite american eng.
