As regards the usual teams division, there are widely varying amounts of meters per member. For example one team has 188 members and has a lower total than another team with 43 members.

I was thinking a possible solution to this would be to limit team size to 20 members maximum. Then after that a venue, virtual or otherwise, could add second or third teams. Overall, this would provide additional competition and motivation for the rankings.

Upon looking at the standings, there are at least a dozen teams with around 50 members though, so perhaps a limit of 50 for the largest teams, and a second division with 20 members maximum. I don't know if there needs to be a smaller division than that but, if so, perhaps with 6 or 8 members maximum.

With all due respect to the "brass" at Concept 2, why the redundancy of a second team competition? Maybe I missed something in all the posts, but how is this really different that the current team competition?

kamdo

re team size - once the challenge starts you'll be able to view the standings in a variety of ways - by team sizes, average meters/member and total meters - this allows teams of all sizes to play.

-bill

I am a member of one of the larger teams, Ducks In A Row, and I've noticed how our total meters add up and give us a nice team position. I've also noticed how far DOWN we drop in the rankings when I sort by meters/member. Neither ranking affects me much. What affects me much more is the encouragement and motivation being on the team gives me. After not exercising at all for a year, I am looking forward to getting back into better shape.

QUOTE

With all due respect to the "brass" at Concept 2, why the redundancy of a second team competition? The January Challenge will keep me going, and I'm sure my team members will come up with other challenges for the rest of the year (I already have an agreement with someone to do a marathon attempt in April).

QUOTE

As regards the usual teams division, there are widely varying amounts of meters per member. Although DIAR are a large team, the vast majority of the team (despite an invitation issued to everyone) have NOT signed up for the January Challenge - at least not on the team I did. If they are on other teams, that is wonderful - hopefully they will be interacting with people they may have never met otherwise.

I am amazed by the individual meters rowed by some of the teams. It certainly doesn't go unnoticed!

Emilia
Captain - Fowl Play and new member of DIAR(joined ~1 month ago)

So is there a link to see which teams are available and who is in them?

I might be tempted to join as it does not affect the club/uni team metres

Of course we could follow Grouch Marx's view that he would not want to be a member of any club that was prepared to accept him.

John

Like mine: http://www.concept2.com/sranking03/prof ... ar=

(Yes, this is a crazy interface, I've no idea why C2 have designed their website like that. It's not the way I would have done it.)

They have all been added to the team and appear on my team list.

Thanks,

Emilia
Captain - Fowl Play
