I'd just be incredibly worried about how bad my form would be.

@Stu/Gammo - thanks! I think most of you guys have pretty decent genes actually! I have hamster sized arms and legs, but a long torso. I think I'm the anti-rowing build!
Mike, yes, there's always something isn't there? Long torso and short legs = good from swimming, but you need long arms too! Me...short torso and longish legs, with arms like an orangutan

Technical PB- by a massive 1m! What was interesting was that it wasn't planned and I was pretty steady for (literally) 29' and then I just said "f*ck it" for the last 1' and seriously dropped the hammer hitting 1.40s, 1.30s and even, in the last 10'', 1.29. Goes to show that my sprint game is decent and that I have something left in the tank after these hard distance pieces. I hope on the right day this bodes well for hitting 7900 this "season" (i.e. by end April) and 8000 this year.

@ Rob - nice work!! Even by 1m when you weren't setting out to do it shows what kind of conditioning you're in right now! Very nice to have that much left on that particular row.

@Rob - nicely done. As Mike said, given you weren't going for a PB getting one anyway is pretty impressive. Also your sprint game really must be pretty good: I'll usually finish a piece like that with a sprint through the last 250m and I'll see some high 1:30s but never anything anywhere near 1:29. I'd be interested in knowing how fast you could row a 500m.

@David- thanks mate. Just trying to keep in the same ballpark as you these days! I sent you a training partner request since you, me, Tom, and Steve are all operating in *roughly* the same league and it's good to see everyone's progress first hand.

@Tom- thanks pal. I've always kind of assumed I'd be good at sprints of 500m and below, as I am pretty bulky (and it's not *all* fat). One of these days I will focus on them for a few weeks. At the moment, however, my priority is to get my aerobic conditioning much better, especially given the comparatively shorter lead time for training the anaerobic systems.

Very sensible, and I think there's even a benefit to this for 500m down the road. Leo Young (the current world record holder for the 500m) said he thinks that, whilst clearly less important than for 2000m, a strong aerobic base is still important for a good 500m performance, in particular during the last 100m. This certainly matches my own experience with 500m attempts where I could usually pull 1:25/1:26s for the first 350-400m then struggling to stay in the low 1:30s for the rest.

Good Day,

HM PB at 1:23:50 (1:59.2/500) which is a PB by exactly 3 minutes for me and the first time under 2:00/500 average.

It takes a little bit of gumption to start out pushing under 2:00/500 when you are looking at an 80+ minute workout, but you reap the rewards.

Have a wonderful day,

David

Well done David, three three minutes is a huge improvement.

I'll give it two months and you'll be pulling 1:58 average pace. The pace of your progress is really impressive

I've been dealing with a neck strain for almost a month... had to take a week off from the gym... went today with a 2K in mind

warmup 1K @ 2:10 (damper @ 10)
PB 2K @ 7:04.8 damper @ 6 (previous was 7:05.3)

That's the second PB in about a month... I'm almost ready to race!

He'll hate me for bringing it up, but if memory serves me correctly Armando and his father did a father/son 2x at Head of the Charles two years ago finishing 2nd.
