Is this a decent price for a used Model D?

Post by jacksgarden » November 1st, 2017, 6:54 am

Since I switched gyms & the new one doesn't have any rowing machines :( I'm looking for a used model for my home.
Here's an ad for one I'm considering:
Concept 2 model D Rower with pm 4 monitor. Also comes with a log card to keep track of different users, and their workouts. manual, and misc book and pamphlets.

This machine is basically new, with 82271 lifetime meters rowed on it. $800

QUESTION - Is 82271 lifetime meters a lot or under used?

Thanks.

It's under used. Unpacked, rowed for a week, turned into a clothes horse. So probably a bargain at $800.

There are lots of folks who can easily do 4,000,000 metres in a season.

On the other hand, despite the fact that the rower seems be in excellent condition and hasn't been used very much, it still is a used machine. Furthermore, it has a PM4 monitor which is no longer sold by C2, instead of the latest PM5. You can purchase a brand new Model D with a PM5 monitor, including shipping, for $145 more. That might be something to consider.

I agree with Sekitori - given the shipped price of a brand new one, I think the used one is over-priced.

If assembling one was a huge pita, then maybe buying one already put together might be useful, but given that that isn't the case, that isn't a consideration.

If I couldn't find a better deal I'd seriously consider ordering a new one from C2.

Good Luck

Yes but the PM4 is a better monitor than the PM5 with far less issues. I would take a PM4 anyday.

Two yrs. down the road since the intro of the PM5 and the power-sucking and unpredictable behavior of USB storage remains. The PM4 is worry free by cf. I use my 5 only with ErgData on ipod and powered from PC all the time. The USB stick moves favorites to custom rows and occasionally I move a row from memory if not using ED. Otherwise the stick is never in the slot. I carry a backup charger battery to deal with the chronic low batt condition in our YMCA gym D/PM5s. I also have a 4 and the 3 that came with my 2012 D. The card system of both is bulletproof for storage and upload duty and power demand acceptable. If you want new car smell [stink?] buy new and assemble.

For the way I use my C2 erg / rower, I agree. I value the backlight feature of the PM5 quite a bit, and I don't try to save records of my sessions in any way other than jotting down the meters, time and calories burned, as displayed by the "just row" screens, and manually moving them to a spreadsheet, so concerns mentioned along that line don't apply to me. The battery that, I believe, was in my Model D when I received it (new) is the same one that's in it now, and the whole machine has worked fine for 3-4 million meters or so. Zero problems. I'm beyond satisfied with the machine.

I'm considering a much more substantial investment (totally unrelated to fitness / erging) and I'm beginning to think I'll pay the extra dollars to get the new-design improvements, rather than pay a bit less but instantly have a somewhat out-of-date item. I haven't always looked at things like this. In the past I was always interested in saving a buck...

Virtually all C2 Model D rowers that I've seen offered for sale on Craigslist have been priced at $750-850. And most of those were older Model D's w/o a PM5. I've actually seen some priced OVER C2's retail price of $900 plus $45 shipping.

For only $100-200 more, why would you buy a used Model D rower w/an obsolete PM when you can get one brand new from C2, especially when it'll cost you at least $145 to upgrade the PM?

Made no sense to me. That's why I bought mine new from C2.

I would totally agree that most used rowers are way overpriced and usually have old monitors that are obsolete. and for a hundred or two more you not only get a current model/monitor, and I don't care what anyone says the PM5 rules over any previous model come on its almost 2018 get with tech already ErgData Bluetooth and sync your workouts to the logbook takes two seconds literally, I mean you're not still using floppy disks are you?

Anyway as I was saying I think a lot of people here are missing the even bigger point that for really only a small bit more not only do you get a new machine and monitor you get a WARRANTY! Not something you get off of Craigslist heck it could even be stolen as we are seeing a lot of rowers disappearing lately. If you ask me 750-850 is nonsense when you can get a brand new one for 900!

Just my 3 cents
