If I may be so bold, I would just like to make one suggestion.
Judging by the flatness of the nose in your profile pic, BETTER BRAKES.
(I'm sure baseball wouldn't be your sport, but couldn't resist using this image.)
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Snort. And to add insult to injury, Villar was still OUT. Another reason not to slide head first....but there's an ale for that! But I digress, the mugshot of Ian's profile is a fun one...good find, danwho!

Meanwhile, the Big Event (aka the Holiday Challenge) is even one less mere day away than it was yesterday. Some of us will just throw ourselves into it - and others have prepared better, gradually increasing their meterage to be able to achieve the numbers they set their sights on without too much pain. However you choose to participate, the key thing is to PARTICIPATE! Sign up for the charity that your meters will support, dig deep for that inner resolve, and take a look at the numbers below...because it really does help to have a target number for your aspirations. Your logbook page has a Challenge meter contribution counter RIGHT there...and you can keep track of the grand tally.

Another episode....bunny trails of the mind!
The Tucson Botanic Garden is featuring an exhibit called "Origami in the Gardens" - an exhibit developed by American artists Kevin and Jennifer Box. One of the things that the Botanic staff does is to develop accompanying educational content to go with these kinds of exhibits...and the first part of the batch made sense: paper folding, classic Japanese garden design, plants you can use for making paper...but then they added some that were surprising: mathematics, satellites and space exploration. Ok. Down the bunny trail for sure.
Origami and mathematics? Turns out that origami has been used to help demonstrate geometric theory, and solve math problems. What I might have thought of as "only" an artistic expression is well integrated in science, math and education with its own International Conference on Origami in Science, Math and Education held approximately every four years. The next on is lucky number 7 (7OSME) and will take place in Oxford, UK between 5 and 7 September 2018.
Origami and satellites? Follow this link to learn a bit more about the smart radiator designed to help remove or add heat to small satellites. https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/20 ... by-origami It only follows that space exploration benefits from similar designs.
But the original interest in the exhibit came from the sculpture depicting a game we played as kids (and maybe as adults when trying to decide who gets the short straw)...was Rock, Paper, Scissors. These larger than life exhibits look like good fun with much in the way of hidden gems.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Woo-hoo! I'm so glad to be back for the Holiday Challenge! We just got home from a 3 week road trip celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary! Glad to be alive! We got into a pretty bad vehicle accident on our 3rd driving day. Both pickup trucks were totalled, but all people involved walked out of the Emergency room after being checked out. It was truly a miracle. I'm still feeling a little bruised in the ribd, so not sure how rowing is going to feel when I give it a try shortly, but this is my favorite challenge of the year, so the motivation factor is high. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with the old team mateys, and meeting the new ones. Crossfit is going on the back burner for the next month cause I'm shooting for some reindeer bling! I've missed the good old TEAM LUNA-TICS! Glad to see you are still at the helm, K2! Cheers!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Thanks, BG! Both boys are doing great, and still on Active Duty. I had to quit the marathon running because it was taking too much of a toll on the old bod. I've had some other issues with hand numbness that have really impacted my life, but I seem to have that issue under control now. I'm hoping that the rowing doesn't reactivate it. Are you still doing marathons?
