Purchasing argument

I am a active high school rower with ambitions to go far with rowing. I want to buy an erg but need help in making the argument to my parents about why I should get one for at home use. I know the family can use it argument. My dad likes facts and really could use help in finding facts why I should buy the best rowing machine out there over some cheap thing that is not the same and will ultimately be worthless. Compared to the great value that C2 ergs hold over time. Thank you for contributing.

Is the argument for getting a rower in general, or are you past that and trying to sell your dad on the C2? If you are already rowing pretty well, and have been for a while, and he sees a commitment with some hard work on your part, it will be an easier sell. I bought my kids lots of things that just collected dust (some fairly expensive), but a few got used heavily, too. It's all in what you show your dad that will convince him, not any verbal argument.

I'd break things down into parts:

1) What are the benefits to you (and anyone else who will use it) of having an erg at your home, instead of you just using the ones that are presumably available to you at your school?

2) What are the benefits of buying a C2 instead of another less expensive model?

Also, consider where it will be located - if you can't find a convenient place of it you won't be able to make the sale. (Unlike me, I doubt you'll be able to put yours in the middle of the living room. )

Regarding facts, you could search E-bay "completed auctions" to get a feel for what used C2 rowers are going for - that should give you and your father an idea of how they hold their value over time.

Thank you for helping already. I am a vey commited rower roeing non stop in the past two years and he know a that I am not terrible. So it’s worth me buying a good erg you would think. Anyways thank you

Tell your Dad that your a good kid and that instead of running around with a bad crowd doing drugs and smoking yours into rowing and fitness.

As a dad myself it shouldn't even be a hard sell, he should be on his laptop ordering a Concept2 rowing machine from Rogue.com right away!

If you can't row or scull during school holidays, somehow you need to keep fit and hard-handed anyway, otherwise restarting is a pain. Just make sure you use good style on the erg, as afloat. Coach doesn't want a crew with eight different styles to put together.

But if you can scull, do that. If you can bike, langlauf, kayak, climb mountains, swim a mile a day, do these too.
