Terribly paced and it included a brief HD, but the 8k barrier is down and next week I'll do another 30 minute which will, hopefully, be better paced.

Well done! Must feel satisfying breaking that barrier!

That's one of my goals when I eventually come around to training the longer pieces.

@danger - Yep, I ranked it. I use row pro and it uploads it for me, then I just have to hit ranking. I like the extra adrenaline it gives me.

Thanks

Tiny PB of .1 second: 100m (was doing peak power test), 16.7 r50. At least I haven't LOST any power this year!

@Stu - Thanks, and hopefully I'll PB again next week. Simply going out a little less fast and not HDing should see me go a little further. After that I'll be switching to 10k and trying to go sub 38.

@hjs - my plan had been to row the first 20 minutes at 1:52.5 (mixture of 1:52s and 1:53s) then see about speeding up a little for the final 10 minutes depending on how I felt, but I got carried away and didn't stick to the plan. That's what I meant by badly paced, though perhaps over ambitious is a more accurate descriptions.

I agree that it would probably be better if I could rate a little higher. I suspect if I pulled the same split, but at 25, it would be a fair bit easier. I'm still struggling to reduce the power of my drive though, so at the moment when I rate up to 25 I'll automatically row at 1:50/1:49.

@JMac - it does indeed, although of course now I want to go further :D

I'd guess it won't take you all that long to hit when you turn your focus to it.

@ Tom, you WILL PB next week.

I got a 60 mins PB this morning, admittedly I have never done a 60 mins time trial before, I have always preferred 16km for some daft reason, so anytime is a PB!!

16317m @ average rate of 1:50.3. There were a couple of 'wobbles' so i hole thay ther is maybe another 150-200m in me somewhere as I didn't feel like it was 'on' from the start and I probably went off slightly too fast.

Anyway that currently puts me 8th out of 334 ranked workouts so I'm very happy with that.

Photos are on Instagram and it's on my logbook if anyone wants to see details. I still can't figure out how to get the photo small enough to post

@Stu - very impressive 60 minutes! Going over 16k is, as of yesterday, one of my longer term goals but given how tough 8k in 30 felt I think it'll be well into next year before I am close. I look forward to seeing you beat your shorter distance PBs once you focus on them (sub 36 10k? 8500m 30min?).

Nice work, you need a bit of getting used to higher paces, certainly more to come soon.

@Tom- really impressive 30'. Trying to get towards 8k myself. You should crush your 2k goal now your aerobic is so strong.

Thanks fellas.

@ Tom, maybe 8500m in 30 mins but sub 36 mins for 10k will be really pushing it I think. Having said that my fitness is far better than it ever has been so it might be possible.

I might try them this year, because I need to include some intense sessions now that I'm going further at weekends.

@Rob - thanks! I doubt you're far off 8k yourself, based on your PBs.

@Stu - I'd have though a 36 minute 10k would be easier than 8500m in 30 mins. It's an extra six minutes but at 1:48 splits vs. 1:45.8. To be fair though, my knowledge of longer distances pales compared to yours.

@Mike - thanks!

@ Tom, it's more of a mental block for me admitting that sub 36 mins is possible. I have done so many 10km sessions over the years that it's almost ingrained in my head that sub 36 isn't going to happen.

You're right it probably will be easier than a 8.5km 30 mins session. I probably need to exorcise that particular demon soon as it's possibly achievable and will have far reaching consequences for my confidence
